Alien Gods: The Wandjina, Dreamtime Artists

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:59 PM PST

Arguments can be made that the evidence for ancient astronauts comes from supposed gaps in historical and archaeological records, and they also maintain that absent or incomplete explanations of historical or archaeological data point to the existence of ancient astronauts. The evidence is said to include archaeological artifacts that are beyond the presumed technical capabilities of the historical cultures with which they are associated. This also includes artwork and legends that are interpreted as depicting extraterrestrial contact or technologies.

Notwithstanding these contentions, let us say that there is an axiom to the ancient astronaut theory. Then we need to ask, who were these beings? What did they represent to the inhabitants of earth? Where these beings the ancient Gods of antiquity?

I would like to periodically chronicle my speculation of how the native people interpreted these unknown entities. This edition describes the Wandjina.

In 1838, a party led by Captain George Grey stumbled across paintings in the Kimberley district of Western Australia that have been the subject of controversy ever since. Exploring among the hills near the Prince Regent River, Grey's group found a number of caves in which many extraordinary figures were painted.

Describing the main painting in one of the caves Grey investigated, he wrote in his journal that "It was the figure of a man, ten feet 6 inches [3.2 metres] in length, clothed from the chin downwards in a red garment, which reached to the wrist and ankles"

"...The face and head of the figure were enveloped in a succession of circular bandages or rollers...these were colored red, yellow and white: and the eyes were the only features represented on the face. Upon the highest bandage or roller, a series of lines were painted in red, but...it was impossible to tell whether they were intended to depict written characters, or some ornament for the head.."

Grey continued to state that the paintings: "...had the appearance of being much more defaced, and ancient, than any of the other's that the party had seen".

Wandjina (the spirit in the cloud), as the paintings have become known, have given rise to many theories. Some people contend that the Wandjina represent visiting extraterrestrials, with their spherical helmets to protect them from our earthly environment. The existing rock art has depicted them as having huge upper bodies and large heads. Their faces show eyes and nose, but typically lack mouths. Around the heads of Wandjinas there appears to be lightning and feathers.

To the Australian Aborigines, the Wandjina (or Wondjina) were cloud and rain spirits who, during the Dreamtime, painted their images (as humans but without mouths) on cave walls. Dreamtime is a sacred era in which ancestral Totemic Spirit Beings formed The Creation. It has been said if the Wandjina had mouths, the rain would never cease. They also lacked limbs and had a skull-like face. Their ghosts still exist in small ponds. Walaganda, one of the Wandjina, became the Milky Way.

The Wandjinas have common colors of black, red and yellow on a white background. Wandjinas are believed to have made the sea, the earth and all its inhabitants. The Wandjina is thought to have special powers and if offended, can cause flooding and intense lightning. The paintings are still believed to have special powers and therefore are to be approached cautiously.

Aboriginal actor-historian Ben Blakenley tells of "The Legend of the Silver Bird", "Long long ago, far back in the Dream Time, a great red coloured egg (spaceship) came down from the skies. It tried to land safely on the ground but broke (crash landed). Out of it emerged white-skinned culture-heroes (gods) and their children."

"The children's elders soon died, either through their old age or because they could not accustom themselves to our atmosphere. The children however were young and able to adapt more easily to their new surroundings. They carved and painted the likenesses of their parents upon cave walls to perpetrate their memory. In time the great red colored egg rusted away until its remains had merged with the ground, thus creating the red soil of Central Australia. The children of the culture heroes who came from the sky grew in numbers until they eventually populated the whole land, their skins turning black due to the hot climate."

Scholars have long argues whether these are visiting astronauts and their spacecraft, or mythical culture heroes and toltemic designs. Ufologists have pointed out that many of these puzzling shapes are similar to UFO shapes which have been sighted and reported in the 20th century. The implications are that 15,000 years ago strange shapes were observed in the skies. Whether these were spacecraft containing ancient astronauts remains unknown. There is evidence both for and against the theory of ancient astronauts and that they may once have visited and had some influence upon the ancient history of Australia.

An ancient astronaut legend comes from the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. This was told by the Dharuk tribe which formerly occupied a vast area stretching from the Hawkesbury River-Sydney District across to the western slopes of the Blue Mountains. The legend concerns "Biramee the Bird Man," who laid a great egg near what is now the town of Linden, from which the ancestors of the Aborigines hatched.

Another legend contends that Biame, the Sky God, came down from the sky in a big dreamtime hunt across the Blue Mountains. He gave the Aborigines the spear thrower and the boomerang, teaching them how to hunt their food and also to make fire...then he returned to the sky from whence he had come. The carvings not only depict Biame but also many strange little figures which were also the totemic figures of the various tribal groups that peopled the area. Among these totemic figures carved on the stone is a strange fish-like object which some have theorized to be space-craft. They also point to a strange human figure clad in garments which could be said to resemble an astronaut; others see a resemblance between this figure and a Egyptian soldier equipped with helmet and shield and say that the above creation myth is more reminiscent of those of the middle-east.

Although these finds may not be proof of extraterrestrial civilizations having visited earth in antiquity, there is certainly evidence which could be said to lend considerable weight to the ancient astronaut theory in Australia. The evidence primarily consists of archaeological finds which imply the former existence on this continent of a race of non-aboriginal man who inhabited Australia before the dawn of history, and who have left behind them traces of a vast astronomical knowledge. Similar features are to be found elsewhere throughout the ancient world. However, the mystery remains as to how these ancient peoples came by their knowledge often without sophisticated equipment which is only now available too modern man.

Japanese Salmon Declared Extinct 70 Years Ago Found Swimming In Lake

telegraph - The freshwater salmon known as black kokanee once thrived in the northerly Akita region of Japan but was classified as extinct by the government in 1940.

However, a team of scientists led by professor Tetsuji Nakabo of Kyoto University has examined nine fish in Lake Saiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, and concluded they directly match the characteristics of the "extinct" salmon.

If confirmed, this would mark the first occasion that a Japanese fish species classified as extinct has been found to be alive, according to the Environment Ministry which is investigating the claims with a view to updating its classification.

The fish, also known as "kunimasu" in Japanese, once lived only in its native Lake Tazawa, Akita Prefecture, and was declared extinct in 1940 following an inflow of acidic water due to a hydroelectric project.

However, Professor Nakabo uncovered records of how 100,000 eggs of the salmon had been transported to other freshwater locations across Japan five years before it was classified as extinct.

Among the locations was Lake Saiko, around 310 miles south of its native waters, where the scientists discovered enough of the formerly believed extinct fish to sustain its future survival.

"I was really surprised," said Professor Nakabo. "This is a very interesting fish it's a treasure. We have to protect it and not let it disappear again."

Nick Redfern's New Book: The NASA Conspiracies: The Truth Behind the Moon Landings, Censored Photos, and the Face on Mars

This week, I'm pleased to announce, my new book is published: The NASA Conspiracies: The Truth Behind the Moon Landings, Censored Photos, and the Face on Mars. And while the book focuses, for the most part, on such issues as UFO sightings by astronauts, it also addresses claims that NASA may have some knowledge of incidents involving unknown animals, as I will now demonstrate.

There can be very few people who have not at least heard of the exploits of the notorious Mothman of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, a bizarre, flying creature that was made famous in the 2002 movie The Mothman Prophecies that starred Hollywood crowd-puller Richard Gere and that, in turn, was based on the book of the same name penned by the late authority on just about everything paranormal and supernatural, John Keel. But, Mothman is not the only strange, winged monster that has been seen in the skies of the United States. One particular case implicates NASA in the story. Claim: HIV Positive Man Cured With Stem Cell Transplant

HP - On the heels of World AIDS Day comes a stunning medical breakthrough: Doctors believe an HIV-positive man who underwent a stem cell transplant has been cured as a result of the procedure.

Timothy Ray Brown, also known as the "Berlin Patient," received the transplant in 2007 as part of a lengthy treatment course for leukemia. His doctors recently published a report in the journal Blood affirming that the results of extensive testing "strongly suggest that cure of HIV infection has been achieved."

Brown's case paves a path for constructing a permanent cure for HIV through genetically-engineered stem cells.

Last week, Time named another AIDS-related discovery to its list of the Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs of 2010. Recent studies show that healthy individuals who take antiretrovirals, medicine commonly prescribed for treating HIV, can reduce their risk of contracting the disease by up to 73 percent.

While these developments by no means prove a cure for the virus has been found, they can certainly provide hope for the more than 33 million people living with HIV worldwide. Alongside such findings, global efforts to combat the epidemic have accelerated as of late, with new initiatives emerging in the Philippines and South Africa this week.

'People call me possessed': Boy who weeps blood baffles doctors

dailymail - These are the shocking new pictures of the boy who weeps blood.

Calvino Inman, 17, has been suffering from the mysterious condition for two years and doctors remain clueless as to how to stem the flow of bleeding, which can last up to an hour at a time.

But a documentary which will be shown tomorrow night on American television explores the phenomenon, experienced by only a handful of people around the world.

Mr Inman, from Knoxville, Tennessee, is shown undergoing tests to investigate whether a medical issue such as a tumour, tear duct problems, or a genetic defect is causing the bleeding.

He said: 'People still call me possessed. The bleeding happens all the time, at school, at home and in the night.

'I don't usually know when they're going to happen but sometimes it burns as it's coming out.

'Sometimes I don't even know it's happened until people start staring at me…

The Boy With Bloody Tears, which appears on The Learning Channel (TLC), also features the bizarre case of a mum of three from Patna, India, whose tears of blood also leave her extremely weak and ill.

Rashida Begum, 27, began crying blood from her eyes three years ago, after a severe bout of vomiting and painful headaches. …

The documentary offers new hope for Miss Begum as she is referred to experts at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.

After numerous tests the doctors finally believe they have uncovered the mystery which links Miss Begum's strange bleeding to her painful and disabling stomach problem.

'I'm so grateful to the doctors for trying to help me,' she said. 'I cannot cope with the terrible bleeding any longer.'

Meanwhile, back in Tennessee Inman's doctor is exploring links to other unexplained bleeding cases in the U.S..
Dr John Fleming, of the Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, said: 'We usually find a reason for the bleeding, such as a growth or an infected tear duct.

'We have seen individuals who suffer from bleeding for months and years and then it suddenly stops.' …

Continued Reports of Strange Activity in Argentina

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 03:57 PM PST

Scott Corrales of Inexplicata - The Journal of Hispanic Ufology is reporting an odd event in Argentina:

Argentina: The Light That Emerged from The Ground
By Quique Mario, CEUFO

Four people suffered a strange experience on the evening of 17 November and discussed it live on the PUENTE 2001 program on Radio Ciudad, Antena 10, from 23:00 to 00:00 hours, and over the Internet on www.antena10.com.ar

1st case: Witness Juan Ignacio, accompanied by a friend, both of them raised in the countryside and with a good knowledge of its ways, were getting ready to have dinner on 17 November on the shoulder of Provincial Route 14, some fifteen kilometers east of the El Durazno wilderness. Geographically, the area features tall vegetation with some valleys suitable for agriculture. There are no communities nearby, except for the wilderness, which features a Vialidad Provincial (provincial traffic control) post, a police station and some isolated houses. The time was 23:00 hours and both men readied themselves to eat on the hood of the car when they realized that a caldén (a traditional tree of the Pampean wilderness) was completely illuminated...but the light emerged "from below" as though coming out of the earth. Attracted by the spectacle, they decided to approach the tree within a few meters and noticed that the same phenomenon was taking place behind another caldén, a hundred meters distant. They felt afraid, and immediately began hearing as sound described as "consisting of two notes" – a very loud sound to the extent that, overwhelmed by terror, [Jose Ignacio] realized that if something was about to happen to him, there was nothing he could do to prevent it. Two separate beams of light pointing upward emerged from the light sources of both trees. The beams merged with a light that remained suspended overhead. "It looked like a tree", he said, and thus a sort of triangle was formed, which caused him even more fear, when added to the strange, unknown sound. The whole event lasted 40 seconds, which were "an eternity" to both men. Suddenly the beams were raised to the "suspended light" and it vanished into space at a stunning rate of speed. The sense of anguish and helplessness brought on by the spectacle shook both men to their core, and the following week, they decided to share their experiences on the PUENTE 2001 broadcast.

2nd case: Shortly after the phone conversation, there was a second eyewitness account from someone identifying himself as "Eduardo", a hunter, who was hunting some 10-15 km west of the El Durazno wilderness with a colleague. He reported a phenomenon similar to the one made known by Jose Ignacio and at 23:30 hrs, that is to say, with a half-hour difference. He cautiously approached the source of light emerging from the ground and claimed that it measured some 20 meters in diameter, although lacking regular borders. He didn't dare venture into the illuminated area and acknowledged that the phenomenon "is frightenable" (sic) according to his own definition. Accustomed to traveling at night in rural areas, and not believing anything related to the UFO phenomenon, he said that he remembered a few stories and was also afraid. He heard no strange sounds, nor did he see beams of light. He claimed that the light "did not come from above", but out of the ground itself. After several seconds, the light vanished and all became normal. The next day, they returned to the site and surveyed it, but found no traces of anything unusual.

These, then, are the reports of both experiences, which constitute a new sign...a phenomenon different from the ones we've grown accustomed to hearing about, don't you think? However, as we have said at the Centro de Estudios Ovni, the phenomenon is out there.

Argentina: A UFO in Cañuelas?

A boy from Barrio Hipotecario claims having seen an unidentified flying object that engaged in oscillating movements over his housing complex. The recording is shown here.

"I wasn't scared. I was very excited – this is the first time I'd seen something like it!" said Gustavo Rasquetti, a boy from Barrio Hipotecario who claims having seen a UFO floating over his housing complex.

On Wednesday last week, after watching the CQC program, he was about to shut the window to his bedroom when he saw "a powerful white light, with colors at times, that made undulating movements." Furthermore, "it made a buzzing sound like a bee."

It remained like that for a while, crossing the neighborhood from one end to another before vanishing at high speed.

Little Gustavo made a brief recording of the object and even made a drawing to remember its shape. "I believe in UFOs, but I never thought I'd see one, much less here in my own neighborhood," he told InfoCañuelas. Gustavo is 12, a student at the Escuela Técnica, and lives in Sector 4 of Barrio Hipotecario.

He claims that he wasn't the only one to see the strange light. "A bald gentleman from my sector also saw it from his window, but he said that it was an airplane or jet. He didn't give it much importance."

The Cañuelas sighting coincides with some strange lights that were seen that very same day in the Ensenada and La Plata areas.
