Left: A traditional healer from the Tonga, Zambiaallafrica - Pupils at Lunyike Basic School in Chipata have not been learning for two weeks because teachers have allegedly fled fearing witchcraft. Eight teachers have so far been reported to have requested for immediate transfers following reports of witchcraft. Lunyike Parent Teachers Association (PTA) vice chairperson, Atron Zulu confirmed that all the teachers at the school had left. And the Ministry of Education said it was doing everything possible to normalise the situation at the school situated in Paramount Chief Mpezeni's area. Chipata District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Kezias Lungu said his office had sent a new head teacher and deputy to the school. He explained that his office was also trying to convince some teachers to move to the school. Mr Lungu explained that it had not been easy to transfer teachers to the school because of the alleged reports of witchcraft in the area. In another development, the PTA at Cronje Basic School in Chipata District has locked up the office of the deputy headteacher. Cronje Basic School PTA chairperson, Maiko Mawelela, confirmed the development yesterday the PTA closed the office for the deputy headteacher on Wednesday last week because they wanted her to explain how finances paid by pupils for the electrification exercise was spent while the head teacher was on leave. The PTA accused the deputy headteacher of refusing to cooperate with other members of staff adding that she has no regard for the PTA committee. A check on Tuesday by a Times reporter found the office of the deputy headteacher at the Reformed Church in Zambia run school completely locked. And school headteacher, Steve Mwale, who also acknowledged the closure of the deputy headteachers' office, said he was not aware of the decision made by the PTA to close the office. And when contacted for a comment, RCZ, education board secretary, Chuluchaminga Nkhata, said he was not aware of the incident. Click for video *********** Zambian Chieftainess Flees Palace lusakatimes - Chieftainess Kalaba of Mansa district in Luapula Province has fled her palace for fear of being bewitched by her subjects. And several teachers at Lupende basic school in the same chiefdom have also threatened to flee the school due to what they called incessant nightmares caused by wizards. This came to light on Sunday when Luapula Province minister Dr Boniface Kawimbe and Mansa District Commissioner Major Chibwe Nsakasha visited the rural school. Major Nsakasha confirmed to ZANIS that it is true chieftainess Kalaba had fled the palace due to concerns of witchcraft. The DC said the traditional ruler is living in Senama compound and she intends to move to Mano near Chipili in Mwense district. Villagers interviewed said chieftainess Kalaba had decided not to return to her palace after fleeing because every time she attempted to do so, she fell seriously ill. Meanwhile, teachers at Lupende Basic were found to have packed their household goods in readiness to leave the school. Parents Teachers Association Chairperson Royd Kasapo said teachers feared for their lives due to alleged witchcraft in which both unmarried and married female teachers were sexually abused while in their sleep. Mr Kasapo said male teachers whose wives were allegedly being used by wizards equally claimed to have been bewitched, a condition that has made them incapable of consummating their marriage responsibilities. He disclosed that the PTA, headmen and the chieftainess had decided to bring a witch finder on March 1 this year who named five old men, including a retired headmaster at the school to be in possession of charms that enabled them to abuse women in their sleep. The PTA chairperson said the retired headmaster, a named old man and other wizards were exorcised of their charms and have since bolted from Lupende. The deputy head teacher Afya Mwaba narrated to Dr Kawimbe how on several occasions she experienced nightmares where she was being abused. Ms Mwaba said the relatives of the wizards have declared to continue tormenting the teachers publicly telling them that what they were experiencing in the night will continue because the charms they have were a family inheritance. Luapula Province Minister appealed to the headmen and parents in the community to help resolve the problems teachers are facing. Dr Kawimbe said Government has very few teachers and if the seven teachers at Lupende abandoned the school, it will be closed and the community will continue to remain backwards. | The Return of Calypso and Indiana Jones Posted: 09 Jun 2010 10:54 AM PDT    bbc - To mark the centennial of marine explorer Jacques Cousteau's birth, the society established in his name will relaunch his ship, the Calypso.The vessel was badly damaged in 1996, when a barge accidentally rammed into it in the port of Singapore. It is now being repaired and the Cousteau Society says it will become a "touring educational exhibition". The ship, originally a British minesweeper, was adapted into a "mobile oceanography laboratory" in 1950. It was bought by Irish millionaire and former MP Thomas Loel Guinness, a descendent of the founder of the Guinness brewery, who outfitted it to Captain Cousteau's specifications and leased it to him for a symbolic one franc per year. The former naval officer turned explorer caught some of the first glimpses of deep sea life from aboard the ship. This was aided by Calypso's "false nose" that Captain Cousteau and his team used as an underwater observation chamber. He also brought the life of the oceans to public attention with his TV series, films and several books. In 1943, Captain Cousteau and the French engineer Emile Gagnan developed the aqualung, the breathing apparatus that first supplied oxygen to divers, allowing them to stay underwater for several hours. Captain Cousteau died in 1997. His eponymous society plans to mark the centennial of his birth with a year-long celebration. This will include a new filming expedition in the Mediterranean Sea - to document the changes since Captain Cousteau made one of his first films there in the 1940s. His youngest son, Pierre-Yves Cousteau said: "If he were alive today, my father would be gratified by the creation of marine protected areas in many countries and by the growing community of scientists working to advance understanding and conservation of ocean biodiversity. "However, I know he would also be distressed by the ongoing pillage of oceans by industrialised fisheries [and] by the catastrophes that stem from exploiting off-shore oil resources." ______________________ 'Indiana Jones 5' Goes to the Bermuda Triangle....Will He Kick ET's Ass?  stuff - Harrison Ford's final outing as Indiana Jones will be "emotional and exciting" as the franchise heads back to its roots after a badly received fourth installment.Ford is well-known for his portrayal of the archaeologist and adventurer, and has agreed to reprise the role one last time. Indiana Jones 5 will begin shooting next year, and much of the plot line will be centered around the Bermuda Triangle, an area over the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft are said to have disappeared. "George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it's almost there," a source explained. "Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet." The last film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 and performed well at the box office, but was savaged by critics. Shia LaBeouf played Indiana's son Mutt Williams, and he will also appear in the new instalment. Movie bosses have assured fans the film will stay true to the series' roots, and won't contain lots of state-of-the-art special effects. "Shia LaBeouf has a central role again as Indy's son but this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie," the source added. | MUFON: UFO Over Navajo Reservation - Satan's Butte, Arizona Posted: 09 Jun 2010 10:02 AM PDT    MUFON witness statement - June 7, 2010 - Satan's Butte, Arizona: I am white with a Navajo wife living on the Navajo Reservation. For many years I have heard many stories about Satan's Butte - all stories revolve around UFO's and Snakes. While I believe in the likelihood of UFO's - I never really believed in something this close to our home. A week ago I was outside at 9:46pm and looked toward Satan's Butte and saw a spaceship hovering above the butte. (The butte is about three miles away.)I ran into the house and grabbed my sister-in-laws camera and my binoculars. I could not get a clear picture but watched the UFO cylindrical sphere with red blinking lights descend into the butte. Two days later the even repeated - I yelled to my unbelieving wife but by the time she got outside it had already descended. Last Friday we went to Flagstaff and I bought a "good" camera. Last night at 10:46pm we both witnessed the UFO - I took pictures and now have a witness and pictures! My wife admits she thought I was seeing things but I took pictures and she watched through the binoculars. The Navajo are a reticent people but talk amongst themselves - they have seen this many times over the years. NOTE: Satan Butte is a mountain summit in Navajo County in the state of Arizona. I received an email a while back from a resident of this Navajo reservation who described a similar sighting though, no images were forwarded. | Searching For 'The Hawkesbury River Monster' Posted: 09 Jun 2010 01:14 PM PDT   hornsby - Imagine a monster living on the borders of the upper north shore. An aquatic beast which lurks in the depths of the Hawkesbury River (New South Wales, Australia). A creature related to the Loch Ness monster.For cryptozoologist Rex Gilroy, the fledgling legend of the Hawkesbury River Monster is real and he's determined to prove it. Since 1965, he and his wife Heather have been gathering information on a creature he believed still lives in our major waterway, or once did. After years of ``patience, field trips and stake-outs'' along the shores of the river, Mr Gilroy, who is also known for his research on the Blue Mountains Panther, hopes to finally obtain photographic evidence. ``Sooner or later, I'm hoping to get the shot of shots,'' Mr Gilroy told the Advocate. The Gilroys say they have compiled hundreds of sightings reports. ``They tend to be seen around (Mooney Mooney and Long Island),'' Mr Gilroy said. ``There are stories of houseboats being lifted up at one end when something underneath tried to surface over at Jerusalem Bay. ``A lot of the inlets here have stories.'' The most recent sighting was by fishermen near Wisemen's Ferry, in March. ``(One of them) momentarily saw a serpentine head and about 2m of long neck rise above the water before submerging,'' Mr Gilroy said. He also referred to a sighting by Rosemary Turner in 1975, who reported a monster swimming upstream from a lookout at Muogamarra Nature Reserve. Robert Jones, a palaeontologist from the Australian Museum, said that as far as science is concerned, the existence of the Hawkesbury River Monster has never been proven. ``It's impossible for them to live in the Hawkesbury River; they just don't exist,'' he said.  But according to Mr Gilroy, the monster is part of Aboriginal folklore, with stories of women and children being attacked by the ``moolyewonk'' or ``mirreeular'' both indigenous names. They also feature in ancient rock art on the banks of the river.``There's got to be something to it,'' Mr Gilroy said. Descriptions of the Hawkesbury River Monster liken it to the prehistoric plesiosaur, an aquatic dinosaur 70 million years extinct. The Loch Ness monster is also said to be related to the same extinct creature. How the Nessie myth is similar to our own, HERE Mr Jones said plesiosaurs did exist in Australia, but ther was no evidence of them inhabiting the Hawkesbury River. However both Mr Gilroy and Mr Jones describe the aquatic dinosaur as grey and mottled in colour, with a large bulky body, two sets of paddle-like flippers, a long neck and serpent-like head and thick, eel-like tail. Sighting reports describe it as about 24m long. Mr Jones said the plesiosaur grew up to 10m long. Mr Gilroy said he and his field assistant Greg Foster may have sighted the creature last August, from a high bank near Wiseman's Ferry. They described seeing a dark, bulky shape with a long neck about a metre from the surface. Its movements caused surface disturbance which appeared to suggest a marine creature with two sets of flippers and a tail, Mr Gilroy said. ``It was encouraging,'' he said. ``I'm hopeful that I'm going to get some sort of evidence that satisfies me ... and when I've got that, I will be pleased to put it on the desk of some scientist and say `well there you are!'' ____________________ Originally posted 8/9/2009 Hunting For Sydney's Underwater Monster  dailytelegraph.com.au - From the depths of time it comes from the ocean, gliding up our waterways to lay its eggs then slipping silently away again - this is Sydney's own "Nessie". Cryptozoologist Rex Gilroy said he recently saw the 12m giant surface in the Hawkesbury River. Through binoculars Mr Gilroy saw a dark shadow ``with a longish neck'' near Wiseman's Ferry. The revelation comes just days after Google Earth images showed what appeared to be Scotland's Loch Ness Monster. Mr Gilroy, who has been searching for Sydney's beast since 1965, said he believed it was a plesiosaur from the Jurassic period. Mr Gilroy, known for his research on the western Sydney panther, said neither the NSW nor Scottish Nessies were alone. "We'd have to have a breeding population of no less than 300 to 600," he said. "We're dealing with ocean creatures coming into the river to breed. There are areas of ocean ... anything could live down there and you wouldn't know it.'' After hearing of the Hawkesbury Monster in 1965 he found accounts dating back to pre-colonial times, with stories told of children being attacked by the "moolyewonk". When fishing boats were found overturned and the occupants missing in the 1980s, the Hawkesbury Monster was the prime suspect. "We have rock art depicting them. | He Watched Yet Said Nothing - The UFO Crash of 1992 Posted: 09 Jun 2010 06:01 PM PDT  Chris Holly's Paranormal World - In year 1992 the newspapers on Long Island New York reported a suspected UFO crash on November 24th in South Haven Park located in Suffolk county. You can find reports on this event with an easy Google search. I remember the event as I lived in Suffolk county New York at the time and recall all the talk and newspaper reports around this event. It seemed to be the main topic of conversation for a short time but soon lost its interest as the holidays were just starting and the UFO story seemed to lose its headlines to Santa and the Malls. Years passed and the interest in this crash got lost when the topic quickly seemed to vanish from the public 's eye. During the late 90's I joined a weekly group of women who would walk together in the malls early in the mornings for exercise. It was a trend at the time and very popular during the long cold winter months. One of the women I walked with I knew from School. She and I would walk and talk daily catching up on our lives. She told me about her new love relationship with a man who lived near the South Haven Park. She talked lovingly about this man but secretly I was a bit concerned at some of things she told me about her new found love. This man lived in an old cabin in a very rustic rural area. He made very little money and was fixed on remaining that way. His theory of living was to survive off the land and not to get caught up with the rat race of society. I found her stories about this man a bit disturbing but could see she was very taken with him so just listened and smiled and was happy she was happy. When I met my friends new love he matched what I had anticipated. He was a tall man who had long dark hair to his waist worn in a ponytail, old worn jeans and a torn washed out flannel shirt. He wore worn out boots and drove a beaten up orange pickup truck that always seemed to contain some kind of firewood over flowing from its bed. During the early fall my friend and her new man hosted a dinner party held in mans extremely rustic cabin. The cabin was a very old dilapidated three-room building that he was holding together with duck tape and hope. Two large wood burning stoves heated it with his water supply borrowed by way of hoses from his neighbor's barn. I do not recall if he had electric or not as the party was lit by candles. I do know he heated water on his stoves to wash dishes and take a bath every few days. It did have a working bathroom - sort of. He lived off the land, which meant he helped himself to the local farmers crops taking his vegetables and fruits from their farms at night by way of flashlight and climbing fences. He also hunted in restricted areas, fished often and always killed the ducks in the area for his seasonal dinner parties. He would brag openly at how little he actually purchased to live or entertain. I found him to be a cheap and a thief. Our dinner party consisted of stolen vegetables and fruit and freshly killed ducks. The old house was blazing with candles.He used his grandmothers china to set a hand made huge table in front of his large wood burning stove. Strangely it was a interesting enjoyable night. The man's cabin was located near South Haven Park. At the end of the evening we were sipping coffee and sharing the homemade fruit pies when the subject came up about the UFO crash in the nearby park years before in 92. As the man who lived in the cabin devoured the homemade apple pie, he interrupted the conversation mouth full and grunted something about seeing it. One of the guests heard what he had said and stopped the conversation and asked what him what he had seen? "I saw that crash" he said as if it were a off handed comment about the weather. At once the people around the table became silent and turned towards him and asked. "What do you mean? You saw the UFO crash in South Haven?" He kept chewing while his girlfriend picked up the subject for him. "Oh I guess we never mentioned it before. He was out gathering wood that night in the park and saw the whole thing." As you can imagine every set of eyes in the room were now focused squarely on the pie-eating cabin dweller. Finally he looked up from his pie plate to a room full of people waiting for him to explain more. He looked around the table knowing he had to confess now as all ears were waiting. He sat back in his chair and said " OK, I will tell you but you cannot talk about this as I will deny it. You know you're not allowed to take wood out of the park but there were tons of it just laying there rotting. I wait till nightfall. I can get in to the park from the back roads easily so I go in and gather up what's laying around." Knowing this guys way of life no one was at all surprised that he did this. In fact we knew that he most likely hunted there at night too. I think it was a favorite area for him to collect meat for his winter house parties! He put down his fork, looked at us all, and nonchalantly as if telling us about a walk in the woods told us his story. "I was out for a wood haul in the park. It was early around 7 at night I think. I parked my truck on a back road like I always do and was getting out my ax and basket to carry the wood back to my truck. I first heard it, like a huge rushing air sound with a high-pitched whine. I looked around and didn't see anything at first. It was getting louder. My senses just made me look towards the noise and I saw it coming in out of the night sky down towards the woods. At first it looked like a big fireball. As it got closer it changed direction and dipped lower coming in over the park. It was a huge dark colored UFO craft coming in on its side. It was partly on fire across the one side of it. It was really moving fast. Within seconds I heard it hit the ground. It sounded like a big splat rather than an explosion. I just stood there a minute kind of shocked and kind of frozen in fear. I thought I heard some kind of movement coming from the park from the direction of where this thing hit. I was really terrified as I didn't have any hunting gear and no one knew where I was. I threw my gear in the truck and tried to start my truck. The damn thing wouldn't turn over at first. I was thinking about making a run for it back to the main road and my cabin. I tried one last time to turn over my truck and she kicked in. I backed down that dirt road in record speed and got the hell out of there. I think I was just crazy scared and cant swear to it, but I thought I heard yelling or screaming coming from the crash area. I knew I was going to be in trouble if I was caught in there at night so I took off. When I hit the main road I saw all the red lights coming towards the park. I knew I had to get home and lock myself in and that's what I did. I drove home and locked up the cabin the best I could. I stayed awake all night with my shotgun, just in case whatever was hollering in that woods found its way to my place." We all looked at this man in stunned silence. Finally one of the other guests began to question him. " Did you ever tell the police what you saw; does anyone from the government know you saw the thing crash? Were you able to get back into the woods to see what was going on?" The answer to all of the questions was no. He was so afraid of being caught over his sticky finger habits and illegal behaviors that he never reported his sighting to anyone other than my lady friend and now us. He told us that he watched the next few hours as trucks, jeeps and helicopters flooded the area. He watched as emergency vehicles entered South Haven Park. He told us that flat bed trucks that looked to be military would drive in empty and come back down the same back road with a load on it that was covered in green canvas. He said the next day he tried to walk his old hound down the road close to where all this activity was going on only to be told to go home and stay there until further notice by men in what appeared to be orange hazard suits. He did not know if the phones were knocked out as he did not have one at the time but did say his truck would not start easily for days after the incident. Finally after about a week passed the people, trucks and helicopters were gone and the park seemed to stand barren and silent. "I can't explain it but the park seemed dusted of even dirt after that happened. It was like they came in and took every twig and log and leaf that was lying around in the woods. It was as if the whole place had been swept and a false fake wooded area was left behind." I was still frightened of the place and since they took all the wood out there was no reason to go back. Funny I haven't been back there since" The conversation then turned towards others who lived in the area who remembered losing phone service, electric service and having car problems that week. Everyone recalled seeing the trucks and helicopters around. Thanksgiving weekend was a day or so after this event followed by the holidays. Interest in this event seemed to simply get lost due to the time of year it occurred. I think about this strange man living out in his cabin unwilling to share his watching this craft crash right in front of him. I wonder how many other people have similar reasons that also prevent them from reporting incredible encounters for rather simple human reasons? Over the years I have spoken to many people who live or lived in that area near that park who also witnessed that craft fly over the town and bank a turn into the park where it crashed. Many watched as the clean up took place and the craft removed yet for some reason this amazing event passed by us all rather easily. I guess we are creatures of our own habits traditions and needs. A UFO crashing over the holiday season when people are caught up in hectic preparation for the holiday Christmas traditions is a perfect time for something like this to be kicked under the carpet. I will never forget the fact that this man's need for a frugal life style and his fear of being caught doing shady things was stronger than the fact he witnessed an incredible event. He simply did not want to get involved. I wonder what he will do if one summer night while stealing peaches from his neighbors trees he comes face to face with whomever or whatever was flying one of those crafts. No one would know what happened to him as he never tells anyone when he slips off to fill his basket with stolen fruit! I haven't thought about this event in a very long time. I wonder how many others clearly watched as that craft crashed that November night in 92? I wonder how many people are walking around with similar stories who remain silent in order to protect their identity from those who expose those like them for personal gain. We need to find a way for those who have seen things to be able to report them without the fear of ridicule or abuse by the media for the purpose of a good story. I think we are really a confused society who forever seem to insist on staying firmly planted in the dark ages when it comes to things unknown. It is incredible we have come as far as we have in science and technology as we basically are our own worst enemies when it comes to all things not yet understood. Be careful out there, you never know what you may see while stealing apples!
