Phantoms and Monsters

Well, It's Not The First Time This Has Happened....

.....and it probably won't be the last.

I received 2 emails this evening from members of the 'Society Of The Unknown' in reference to their investigation. I'm not going to start pointing fingers....only that I'll let you make up your own minds. Again, here's the link to the the post Missouri Ghost Hunters Encounter Possible Non-Spiritual Entity...Lon

(1ST EMAIL)

I need to inform your organization that the UFO photo that was submitted by Society Of The Unknown is in all true reality a flower basket! Yes that's right...a flower basket!! A co worker told me his wife said it looked like a flower basket. We talked about the possibility and I went back and reviewed my photos. Much to my surprise I found 2 photos that have a flower basket turned on its side and it is identical to the UFO photo that I took. One photo is taken a few days later during the day and the other photo is a night shot taken the same night as the UFO photo. I will submit all three photos together to be examined and everyone will see it is a flower basket and not a UFO. Additionally one of my team members submitted to your organization some photos that had a red hue around them. She ASSUMED that it was an alien or ghost that was mimicking us or shadowing us. She is completely incorrect! The photos with the red hue around us was a result of me experimenting with an infrared attachment on the camera and using the flash and night scene mode all at the same time. I asked her to not show these photos until it was determined how they came about. I must apologize to your organization and your readers for any poor judgment on my organizations part and I mean it when I say there was no intent to deceive anyone. Please except my sincerest apologies. I guess this can be taken as lesson well learned. I was thoroughly convinced I had captured a photo of a UFO. Again make sure you and your readers view the photos.

(2ND EMAIL)

Please disregard the Missouri ghost hunters story.

Sometimes we want something to be real so bad that in our minds we will believe everything we read, see, or hear. Especially if it is about the paranormal. I guess the mystery is solved. I am glad we caught the cause before this thing got any more in the media. I guess this is why I wanted the photos to remain and sent only to mufon at first. So we could rule any of this out. Please forgive us for jumping the gun.

I got this in email from Lorin tonight………

Some how the camera superimposed this flower basket in the trees! I guess this means the camera is screwed royally?!?!?!?!? Break the news to everyone as fast as you can. Send this photo to MUFON and tell them to publish it so no one will think we tried a hoax. I have to tell you I have debunked the UFO theory. A coworker said it looked like a basket of flowers superimposed in the tree. I went through my photos and found a basket of flowers laying on it's side in the same corner of the cemetery where the photo was taken. It looks identical to the basket of flowers. We didn't mean to cause a stir. I actually though it was a UFO! I guess there is something wrong with the camera I used. Enclosed you will find a copy of the basket during the day and a copy during the night. I will be standing next to the basket. Disregard the red hue around me as I was experimenting with an infrared light when that photo was taken.

Heather

NOTE: the only thing I'm going to say is that investigators need to look carefully at their 'evidence' before making it public. I am going to assume that this is simply a case of 'jumping the gun'....let's just hope that, for their sake, Society of the Unknown hasn't 'jumped the shark'. I do appreciate the fact that they did contact us ASAP and, for that, I thank them...Lon

The Curious Case of Alfred Burtoo

Posted: 10 Jun 2010 11:07 AM PDT

On August 12, 1983, 77-year-old Alfred Burtoo was enjoying some fishing in the Basingstoke Canal in Aldershot, Hampshire, United Kingdom. He was a keen and experienced fisherman, and since the weather report predicted a warm, fine night, he set off from his home in North Town, Aldershot, at 12:15 a.m., accompanied by his dog Tiny. On reaching Government Road he headed toward his fishing site, about 120 yards north of the Gasworks Bridge.

Because of its many military establishments Aldershot is known as "The Home of the British Army," and Alfred Burtoo himself had an Army background, having served in the Queen's Royal Regiment in 1924 and the Hampshire Regiment during World War II. Well known as a historian, he had in his time worked as a farmer and gardener, and while living in the Canadian outback hunted bear and fought wolves. Prior to his experience he had read no books or magazines on the subject of UFOs, which held no interest for him, yet much of what he claimed has been corroborated by other witnesses.

After getting comfortable, his concentration on the water was interrupted by a bright light descending from the sky. Whatever this was, it landed not too far away from Burtoo. There was a Mod base in the vicinity, and he thought maybe he had seen a helicopter land. Burtoo had just poured himself a cup of tea, when his dog Tiny became very nervous. Two beings suddenly appeared out of the darkness. "They were about four foot high, dressed in pale green coveralls from head to foot," Burtoo told reporters. "and they had helmets of the same color with a visor that was blacked out." The two beings beckoned for him to follow them. He obliged. Burtoo would later say that he was afraid of nothing, and regarding his encounter, which would have terrified most people, said: "What did I have to fear? I'm seventy-eight now and haven't got much to lose."

Burtoo followed the two strange beings until they arrived at a flying saucer that had set on the ground. He ascended the stairs leading up to the craft until he could go no further. The ceiling was too short and he had to bend over to continue. He was now inside of a black, metallic chamber. The room had a foul smell, like decaying meat.

"I did not see any signs of nuts or bolts, nor did I see any seams where the object had been put together," he recalled. "What did interest me most of all was a shaft that rose up from the floor to the ceiling. The shaft was about four feet in circumference, and on the right-hand side stood two forms similar to those that walked along the towpath with me."

The curious old fisherman was then instructed to stand underneath an orange light. This light seemed to scan his body for several minutes. "What is your age?" asked one of the beings, in a voice which sounded like "a mixture of Chinese and Russian". When he told them his age, he was told that he could go. He was told he was too old and sick for their purposes. Burtoo then walked out of the ship, down the stairs and back to this fishing spot.

"The first thing I did was to pick up my cold cup of tea and drink it," he recalled. "...then I heard this whining noise, just as if an electric generator was starting up, and this thing lifted up then took off at a very high speed. I got into what I had come out for...the fishing!" He would later tell newsmen that it was one of the greatest experiences of his life.

There was no physical evidence of the crafts landing, and no marks of any kind on Burtoo. He did experience some loss of appetite and weight loss as well as some difficulty sleeping, but that passed after a short time. Burtoo was the only witness, and we may have to take his word, as he was not given to making up stories, and had no reason to perpetuate a hoax. He gained nothing from his experience except being in the local papers. Despite Mr Burtoo having passed away on August 31st, 1986, with almost religious regularity the local news papers write an abbreviated story about Mr.Burtoo's encounter each year to coincide with the anniversary of this now famous encounter, and always they trivialize the case, running him down and generally making this witness a laughing stock.

His wife, Majorie, was asked if he had every confessed to her that the encounter was a hoax. She vehemently denied that Burtoo lied..."what Alf told you was the absolute truth. My friend who was with me when Alf came home can verify what he said. He looked absolutely shaken and he told both of us about his experience that he had with the UFO...."

NOTE: I've always been a bit wary of this case, though, a few people I have talked to who were knowledgeable of this encounter find it significant that Burtoo had no prior interest in UFOs and technology. Still, this story does leave a lot of questions that will never be answered...Lon

U.S. Ambassador Security Guards Capture Video of UFOs Over Vatican

openminds - Was Rome visited by Unidentified Flying Objects? Definitely, and once again the sightings in the skies over Vatican City stirred newspaper headlines and numerous TV news reports in Italy. According to recent reports, it seems that a UFO flap is taking place in Rome and that strange objects were also recorded on camera several times. The most important one is the footage of an odd luminous formation taken by three security guards stationed in front of the residence of the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican (Holy See). These were qualified witnesses since they are artillerymen, trained experts in air surveillance.

It was at 4 am in the night of June 7th when three men belonging to the 17° antiaircraft Regiment at the "Santa Barbara" station in Sabaudia (Latina province), spotted three spherical bright objects hovering in the sky above St. Peter's dome in the Vatican, right in the center of Rome. They promptly filmed the unexpected nocturnal air show with a cell phone.

From their point of observation in the Roman Monteverde area (overlooked by the Gianicolo hill), they immediately stopped a police patrol. Well trained in spotting aircraft, the artillerymen excluded the possibility of a commercial plane, a jet fighter or a balloon. They described the object's swift maneuvers, mentioning a "darting move toward the sky," a "delta formation," and "luminous dots suspended at about three hundred feet above the ground." They added that there is "no way a conventional airplane can do such things." The UFO disappeared and reappeared for brief moments, with sudden changes of altitude before it darted westbound at a 40 degree angle. The police patrol took the report very seriously and the central police station in Rome was immediately alerted. The footage, more than a minute in length, was acquired by the Italian police, pending further investigations.

Thanks to the technical background of the witnesses, many TV networks took the news seriously. "Studio Aperto" (Mediaset, Italia Uno newscast) anchorwoman Elena Guarnieri introduced the segment saying: "We will show you now an exclusive video footage of a UFO sighting in Rome, this video was filmed by three soldiers, take a look." Staff journalist Paolo Capresi then describes the images: "They are three flying objects and they are floating in the air, they were filmed last night in the sky above Rome. The images were taken with a cell phone by three soldiers who were in service in front of the U.S. ambassador's residence in the Vatican City (Holy See), Monteverde district, two steps from St. Peter's Square, and were immediately handed over to the Carabinieri [police]. As you can see there are no objects around to use as reference points that can give us the exact distance and size of the UFOs. It seems that they are spherical in shape and they hover above the Vatican. They appear and disappear often changing altitude."

The journalist concluded, almost ironically: "The soldiers who have filmed these objects are based in the antiaircraft division and are specialized in recognizing the flight path of aircraft. Since 1978 it's the Air Force that is in charge of registering sightings (over Italy)". Colonel Marco Picciau of the Italian Air Force specifies that "statistics of sightings reported before 2001 were 300, after 2001 we have a more precise statistic on 50, 55, sightings [every year]".

The June 7th sighting was preceded approximately eight hours before by another relevant sighting. As reported in the Roman newspaper "Il Messaggero", "Just last Sunday [June 6], at 8 pm, many motorists traveling along the Via Aurelia and the A12 highway in the section between Civitavecchia and Santa Marinella, said they saw a very bright circular object flying across the sky."

NOTE: this isn't the first time UFOs have been seen over Vatican City. While Pope John Paul II's body lie in state, a large UFO was captured on video hovering over St. Peter's Square (below)...Lon

The Death of Pope John Paul II and Vatican UFO Sightings

Paranormal and other unexplained activity has been reported in and above Vatican City for many years. But the increased reports of UFO / OVNI phenomena immediately following the death of Pope John Paul II and since has many people in the field of extraterrestrial research wondering if there is some sort of connection. As well, there have been several documented accounts of increased anomalous activity in different locations throughout Vatican City since the death of Pope John Paul II.

The vidcaps above were taken above St. Peter's Square while Pope John Paul II lie in state.

Received the following photo and message from my good friend Piotr Cielebiaś, NPN - www.npn.ehost.pl: Concerning the photograph - On the left side of the Basilic's Cuppola there is a bright object (left upper corner), orange in color. What do you think about it.

I have just received it. It was taken in June 24, 2006 in Rome by a Polish tourist and submitted recently.

Robert Morningstar, associate editor of UFODigest.com enlarged and enhancement the photograph sent by Piotr. Robert states that "the attached enlargements indicate to me a solid object above Rome."

"The color of the object is consistant with UFO colors as the UFO craft transition in energy from red to amber as they undergo power shifts. Rome, unlike New York and other brightly illuminated cities, has little light that could be reflected so brightly from such an apparently high flying object. The equalized enlargement (the lower one) shows the body of the craft as a black silhouette", he added.
