Phantoms and Monsters

The Good People

I received an interesting email from Jan, a P&M reader from County Kerry, Ireland:

Hi Lon,

I know you probably get hundreds of these odd photos, so I will keep this short and sweet. This is an ole abandoned farm house on the west cost of Ireland, Co. Kerry. I was out picking wild flowers and decided I'd stick my head in and take a couple of photos.

Notice down in the lower right corner "Old Kitchen" (above photo), there seems to me some organic looking light anomaly. Then same room, "Old Kitchen 2" (photo just below), same general corner - I see three odd looking little obelisk shaped critters (fairies?). There was nothing in this space that I could see with the naked eye. Just plain bare concrete floor, which is standard for this type of old farm house here.

Odder still, if you use points of reference between these two photos, you can figure out that the anomaly in the first, would be in the area of the top of the manifestations in the second (from the top of the obelisks).

There seems to be some energy on the "Old Stairs"(below) as well.

Just for a reference photo I included "Old Sitting rm" (below).

I don't know much about this house, except it has been empty a long, long time and the people who used to live there were know to be very neat, tidy and friendly (salt of the earth).

Fairies in Ireland are not the homogenized "Disney" version. They can shape shift, and are usually mischievous, and even dangerous. They don't like to be referred to as "fairies", but instead to avoid injury by them, you should always call them "the Good People".

These photos are not photo shopped in any way, except focus sharpened in the first, there are no alterations to what I downloaded from my phone/camera. I don't have photo shop on my computer and wouldn't have a clue how to use it.

I don't know what, if anything these images are, but it they are "The Good People", then this may be the first ever authentic photo ever of this type of energy.

Thank you kindly, Jan

ADDED: I talked to some of my husband's family today about the old place. My husband's family has been in the area for generations. The family that lived in the house was "O'Donoghue". They had five children. Only one of them ever married (girl). The old man lived well into his 90s, but the children, all died in their middle ages. Two brothers living in it the last. Wishing you well, Jan

NOTE: my wife, Vanessa, is into fairies as well as angels...in fact, she has a large fairy tattooed on her left arm and shoulder. Frankly, I know little about them...so I'm always glad to receive informative emails. As far as the photos, I'm going to leave that to your interpretation. Thanks to Jan! Lon

Irish Fairies - "The Good People"

You need to know Irish fairy superstitions in order to learn how to keep them happy so they don't cause any problems in your life. They have been known to cause many problems and just generally make your life miserable.

The most well known of Irish fairies has to be the Leprechaun . A close second is the Banshee . You may or may not have heard of the Pooka . These are some of the solitary fairies. The Merrow are Irish sea fairies or I should say the sea fairies of Ireland. The Dullahan are the most feared fairies.

There are many stories concerning the social or trooping fairies. The trooping fairies travel in large groups or hosts. If you see a sudden gust of wind that swirls up dust and leaves or just blows on the leaves of some trees but not others near by, that is a cavalcade of fairies passing by. The fairies themselves unseen by human eyes.

Where Did Irish Fairies Come From

There are two thoughts on the origin of the fairies.

The first thought is they are the Túatha Dé Dannan. The Túatha Dé Dannan were in original gods of Ireland. They were defeated by the Sons of Mil thought to be the final Gael conquers of Ireland. The Túatha Dé Dannan were not banished from the land. They were diminished in size and told to go live among the hills, mounds and plains. They do not die of old age. They are not visible to humans but they can be seen if they want to. They have supernatural powers, they are gods after all.

The second thought of their origin is that they are fallen angels. This idea probably came with the coming of Christianity in the fifth century. After all everyone knew fairies existed so they had to conform to the new Christian belief. When Lucifer rebelled against God some of the angels hesitated about which side to join. For this behavior they were cast from Heaven. Some fell on land to live in elf mounds called Sidh. Some fell into the seas, lakes and rivers of Ireland and are bound to live there. A few fell into Hell and were taught by the devil to do ill to mankind, these are the malevolent fairies.

All fairies will not know death until the "Last Day" comes. Then they will simply vanish away forever, that is their fate. They are very jealous of humans because humans will be granted immortality on that day.

Do You Believe In Irish Fairies?

Today it is believed that only the uneducated believe in fairies. I don't think this is the case. I think the uneducated would be the only ones to admit to belief in fairies. Anyone else would never admit to your face this belief for fear of ridicule. Secretly many people are careful not to offend the Good People.

Up until the year 1700 virtually everyone in Ireland believed in fairies from royalty down to the rural peasants. Not even the arrival of Christianity in the fifth century could dispel this belief. Old stories were told that included fairies. It was just taken for granted that these stories were all true because it was the natural order of things that they truly were part of the real world.

As the science of the day began to find cures for mankind's aliments belief in Irish fairies began to decline, but not completely. To this day in Ireland some people still practice rituals to appease the Good People even though they may not be aware of what they are doing. On May morning some people collect flowers especially primroses to spread around their doors and windows. This is done to keep out the malevolent fairies. They may or may not know why they do this. They would never admit to you or me why they do this.

A friend of mine from here in the U.S recently visited a town in Co. Kerry, Ireland. On display were some fairy houses where some fairies are suppose to currently live. A local told her that the "real" fairies don't live there, the display is just for the tourists. She wouldn't tell my friend where the fairies really lived, that has to be kept secret.

Milk, salt, and fire are sacred in fairy lore. I remember as a child being told by my mother to throw spilled salt over my shoulder. I wonder if this was to give the fairies their share, I would be willing to bet that it was. This most likely has been handed down through the family, but the reason behind it has been lost. After all you should just know why you are throwing salt over your shoulder, shouldn't you? It's the natural order of things.

There might be things done in your family to appease the Good People that you may not be aware of. So I ask again. Do you believe in fairies?

Firefighters Convinced Mischievous Phantom Haunts Station

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 08:31 AM PDT

At Butte County Fire Station 55 in Bangor, Cal Fire-Butte County Capt. Scott McLean looks inside the "volunteers room," where the ghost's activity tends to center

Firefighters are a pragmatic group who learn to assess a situation objectively and make reasoned decisions based on training and judgment.

So discussions of the supernatural aren't usually part of their working world, except at Butte County Fire Station 55 in Bangor, California.

Sitting on the northern edge of what was a Gold Rush boomtown, the Bangor Fire Station is an aged, decrepit combination of structures that over the years have been remodeled into a single facility.

In the past, the county had to dispatch exterminators to the station to attack a rat population, but it wasn't rats that became a brief topic of conversation at a recent Butte County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Bangor station is No. 1 on the county's priority list for capital improvements. At the meeting, the supervisors were asked to approve $1.6 million to tear down and replace the station.

That's when Chico Supervisor Jane Dolan commented that the old station has floors that sag and other structural problems. She said the condition of the building and the passing wind were behind the tales of the ghost of Station 55.

Chico Supervisor Maureen Kirk laughingly asked Rich Hall, county director of general services, if he could arrange an "exorcism" at the station.

"That is not included in the proposal," responded Hall with a smile.

The ghost appears to become upset when the door to one room in the Bangor fire station is closed. As this photo was being taken with slow shutter speed, the door began to close on its own

In a later telephone interview, Hall explained, "It seems that the firemen up at the Bangor station have the idea that the residence that they are in now is occupied by the ghost.

"It was mentioned to me in a rather jovial way after some of the people came back from a meeting with the fire department about what we were going to do up there."

Janet Upton is deputy director for communications at Cal Fire headquarters in Sacramento, but before taking that job she worked in Butte County for 22 years, and the Bangor ghost was something she heard about from almost her first day in the county.

While the station is owned by the county, it is staffed under a contract with Cal Fire.

"It is just part of the Butte County Fire Department lore," said Upton.

"I think that Jane Dolan is on to something. It is an extremely old building that creaks and groans, and things go bump in the night fairly regularly," she continued.

While saying there are at least some entirely mundane explanations for the Bangor "haunting," she noted there are some perfectly "rational people" who are convinced this ghost is absolutely real.

One of those is Cal Fire-Butte County Capt. Scott McLean. For nearly 10 years, Station 55 has been his working home. For him there is no debate or discussion: The station is haunted.

"Yes, there is a ghost. Many of us have dealt with it," said the captain in a matter-of-fact tone.

There isn't a hint of humor in McLean's voice when he makes the statement, and it isn't an "I believe" comment but a simple "I know" reality as far as the veteran firefighter is concerned.

"All of the people (at the station) have experienced it one time or another. It just happens. You just work with it," continued the captain.

In years past, before McLean was assigned to 55 and when the engine stationed there was gasoline-powered, the ghost allegedly liked to pull the engine's ignition wires on a regular basis.

The current diesel-powered fire engine hasn't been the target of any spectral pranks, but objects are moved, doors opened, and noises are heard.

Even resident animals have had contact with the phantom, according to McLean.

"There used to be a station dog for a while that was freaked out. Currently there is a station cat who doesn't care," he said.

Except for an occasional fleeting shadow, nobody has actually seen the ghost and nobody knows whether it is male or female, an adult or a child.

McLean called the resident specter more mischievous than malevolent, but one of its reported behaviors is disturbing.

Firefighter Anthony Brown, who was assigned to Station 55 a year ago, was a mild believer when he arrived.

"When I first came here I told the ghost, 'I'm here to work. I've got no problems with you. I don't want you to have any with me. I'm only here for three days out of the week.' Yeah, I mean everything was good up until that morning," said Brown.

"That morning" came at 1:05 a.m. April 10 of this year.

Brown recalls he had just rolled over in bed and, "I was pinned down." Brown said it "absolutely" felt like somebody was holding him down.

Brown desperately tried to call out to his partner, who was sleeping in an adjacent bedroom, "but it was all pretty much mumbles."

"Then I felt this blast of wind for 20 or 30 seconds, and then it passed. I was able to get up. I sat up for a few minutes, gathered my thoughts and bearings, and turned on every light possible. "

Brown said he was absolutely "wide awake" during the encounter. Since that morning Brown has become a devout believer as far as the Bangor ghost is concerned.

"Definitely! He let me know he does exist."

McLean said he has had almost precisely the same experience that Brown described.

The captain said there are firefighters who will not work at Station 55 or if they do, they sleep in their cars or don't sleep at all, opting to sit up and watch television all night.

Brown has no problem sleeping at the station. He says, "I've come to accept it."

The ghost's activity tends to center in a bedroom/storage room called the "volunteers room."

The door to that room is never closed. McLean said when the door is closed, the ghost tends to become more aggressive.

While he was taking photos in the room, Enterprise-Record head photographer Bill Husa watched as the door slowly and silently closed. It was a windy day. Husa said he tested the door and found it would swing with the slightest touch.

None of the firefighters has any real information on who the ghost might be. McLean said there is a rumor that the entity could have been a local mayor, sheriff or the madame who allegedly killed one of them, but that is nothing more than speculation.

Even with the times when somebody gets pinned to the bed, McLean said, "I enjoy it," and he doesn't want the ghost dispossessed.

He said when the station is torn down and the replacement erected, "I'm sure somehow I will figure out how to bring the ghost along (to the new facility) so everybody is happy."

Ghostly Apparitions, Voices Remain at Historic Ohio Theatre

newsandsentinel - Virginia Lyons felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up.

A man's laughter echoed in the dark lobby of the Colony Theater in Marietta, Ohio where she felt a gentle tug on her hair, but when she turned around, no one was there.

At the time, Lyons was a 16-year-old concession worker cleaning at the Colony Theater after closing time. The experience was one of several in her childhood that sparked her interest in paranormal activity.

Today, Lyons is a member of the Mid-Ohio Valley Ghost Hunters, a group that explores paranormal activity and frequents historical places in search of a spiritual presence.

"I would describe ghost hunting is a hobby of mine, but I like to joke that it's my second life," said Lyons. "I enjoy being able to talk about this stuff without people looking at me like I'm crazy."

The group has become more popular since its formation in 2000, even catching the interest of the television show "Creepy Canada," a program about hauntings in Canada and the United States. In 2007, members of the Mid-Ohio Valley Ghost Hunters were filmed by the Canadian television crew during an all-night ghost hunt in Moundsville.

Tom Moore, the group's founder, said the Mid-Ohio Valley is full of historical buildings, cemeteries and houses that have shown signs of paranormal activity. The group has traveled to the Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville, Silver Run Tunnel in Cairo, the old West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, Eaton's Tunnel near Walker, Trans Allegheny Books, the Van Winkle Mansion, Quincy Hill, Fort Boreman Park and Riverview Cemetery.

Most places of interest allow ghost hunting groups to conduct hunts and all-night outings for a small fee or donation.

"This area is full of historical places with interesting stories behind them," said Moore. "When I go to a new place, I like to go in open-minded, without having too much knowledge about the history of that place. That way if I experience something, I know I haven't been influenced somehow."

Moore said people are drawn to ghost hunting for the thrill, the excitement and a curiosity about the spiritual world.

"Once you start ghost hunting and you have a personal experience, it's hard to stop," said Moore.

Cameras, recording devices, boom microphones and night surveillance equipment are used by the group to capture sounds and movement. Disturbances in electromagnetic fields are measured and infrared thermometers capture dramatic temperature changes.

"We use various pieces of equipment to gather evidence," said Moore. "We've picked up background voices, shadowy figures and temperature changes of around 30 degrees in just a few minutes."

The group plans two or three ghost hunts each month, usually scheduled around full or new moons.

Some outings are uneventful. Others are filled with strange happenings.

The most memorable paranormal experience for Moore occurred nearly five years ago at Prospect Place Mansion in Dresden, Ohio. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places and was a stop on the Underground Railroad.

"I saw a girl walking around the staircase wearing a dress down to her ankles. She looked like a normal person, but as she walked around the stairs, she disappeared right before my eyes," said Moore.

Later, he learned that in the 19th century, a young girl fell to her death from the top of the staircase.

"Ghost hunting is a lot about personal experience. I think in this type of field, it's so easy for people to fake it. So for me, I need to actually experience something myself to believe it," said Moore.

THE HISTORY OF THE COLONY THEATRE, MARIETTA, OHIO

Previously called the Hippodrome, its original location was at the corner of Second and Union Streets, 0n a lot that is currently occupied by the Wesbanco building.

This original vaudeville house was built on May 18, 1911, and had a seating capacity of 657. The theatre was a destination for traveling live acts, plays, magic lantern projections and later silent moving pictures which were accompanied by live music.

When the German National Bank purchased the Hippodrome property in 1918 to expand the bank, the C & M Amusement Company immediately purchased lots on both Putnam and Third Streets to build a new theatre.

While construction was underway, performances continued at the Old Hipp, and on May 9th, 1919, the new Hippodrome Theatre opened to the public with a premiere showing of Daddy Long Legs, starring Mary Pickford.

The new Hippodrome boasted one of the Midwest's largest "legitimate theatre" stages that could accommodate the biggest Broadway plays of the time.

Among its many features was its giant boiler that provided steam heat in the winter and its unique cold-water cooling system, the 1918 equivalent of central air conditioning.

The theatre also boasted seven dressing rooms, a large chorus girls room, plush carpeting, a seating capacity of 1,200, perfect sight lines, exceptional acoustics, a giant silver screen, an orchestra pit and a 50-foot fly loft for rigging drops, scenery and lighting.

The projection booth housed two moving picture projectors and spotlights, and the pipes of the Echo theatre pipe organ were located in chambers on either side of the stage.

Opening eight years before the advent of talking pictures, the new Hippodrome offered vaudeville acts, Broadway plays, magical acts, and silent films accompanied by the Hippodrome's own five-piece orchestra.

In 1929, C&M Amusement Company installed Vitaphone talking and synchronized moving pictures using high class RCA Photophone equipment, the first of its kind in the Marietta area. And for the next 30 years, the Hippodrome reigned as Marietta's number-one amusement palace.

In 1949 the new owners of the Hippodrome, Shea Theatres of New York, began remodeling the theatre at an estimated cost of $50,000.

The distinctive stone archway was replaced with a two-story Southern-Colonial façade. The box office was moved to the side of the entranceway, and new carpeting, stage drapes and other decorative improvements transformed the theatre.

A highly publicized contest was held to rename the theatre, and on June 25th, 1949 the Colony Cinema opened to the public showing the Esther Williams musical Neptune's Daughter.

In its prime, the Colony's stage was graced by some of America's most famous entertainers, politicians and other celebrities. Some of its guests included Boris Karloff, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland, Dick Van Patten, Tex Ritter, Minnie Pearl, Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb, Randy Travis and many more.

On February 12th, 1957, the Colony Cinema added to its history of firsts and milestones by hosting the world premiere of Battle Hymn, in which Rock Hudson portrayed Marietta native Colonel Dean Hess.

25,000 screaming fans took to the streets, mobbing visiting Hollywood stars including Rock Hudson himself. The Colony hosted a week's worth of packed-house events that are unmatched to this day in local theatrical history.

From 1975 to 1989, the Colony changed hands several times, passing from Shea Theatres to Cinemette of Pittsburgh, whose 1975 remodeling included the removal of a lobby staircase and replacement of the concession stand. Shortly thereafter, ownership passed to Ohio Movies.

In March of 1980, a failed boiler threatened to close the Colony, but a determined Marjorie Bee, who had worked at the theatre since 1968, made an offer and bought the Colony on February 15th, 1981, making her the theatre's first local owner.

Forming M.B.M Corporation of Marietta, Mrs. Bee and her sons ran the theatre until low attendance and high heating bills, up to $1,300 per month in 1983 and '84, forced the closure of the Colony in December 1985.

Local businessman Dan Stephan Sr., purchased the theatre in 1989 in the hope that someday this treasured local landmark might be preserved and restored.

In its more than 80 years, the Colony Theatre has changed locations, appearances and even names. But it's always been a shining jewel in the cultural landscape of the Mid-Ohio Valley. Innovations ranging from heating and cooling to talking pictures and celebrity appearances have earned this theatre a special place in Marietta's history, and in the hearts of the many who can still recall what a night out at the Colony was like...colonytheatre.com

MUFON: Swedish Man Recalls UFO Encounter

Posted: 13 Jun 2010 09:42 AM PDT

MUFON witness statement - corrected several typos - Umeå, Sweden: I am NOT using drugs and i never have. I am perfectly normal but my english spelling sucks. Sorry for my bad english typing.

First time i saw a UFO was when i was almost 15 years old here in UMEÅ in SWEDEN. I was walking home from bus station in the middle of the winter with a heavy suitcase. I stopped and took a break and looked around and i got this weird feeling.. It felt like time itself stopped. everything was silent, like nobody was home..all windows were black..i felt like i was in some sort of twilight zone or something. No cars outside, no people.even no wind.no lights..only me and moonlight from the moon.

Then a UFO came and hovered right on top of me. if i had a tennis ball i would have been able to hit it...it was that close. Roof top range.

I have told a few people but nobody believed me. When i was 18 i told the officer in Swedish army what i saw and he sent me home.disbanded from the army or how you type it(did not have to go back). i guess i would not believe it myself until i saw it with my own eyes. when it came down on top of me i did not run, i did not screen..i just stood there wile it hovered over me and i looked at it.

It looked like a Diamond/Crystal. it had some lights on it. and i did see something moving inside it. i am not sure if i got abducted or not ..i have no memory of it at least. the UFO did NOT look human made, did not make a sound, then it started to fly like a curve up into the sky and then WHAM !!! gone super speed away from me up into sky....still no sound.

When i got home the digital clock was blinking 00:00 like the power have been cut. only explanation i could think of is that UFO was draining power/electricity and had to hover at low range to i dont know refuel or something..or it had taken a interest in me because the flight path was directly down to hover above me and same way back up into the air it came from.

I am now 30 years old this year. 15 years have past. i have not been sick 1 day. sure i can get a headache but not anything more.

Today they came back. not at same location but they were hovering outside my balcony. and yes it was exactly the same one. this time i went for my camera but when i got back it was gone. i dont know why but when they come its like time stops. for some reason i keep moving. hard to explain.

I still have the same digital clock and its blinking 00:00 after the UFO was here. powercut again ?

I found this website online and i figured what the heck i type my story here ..believe it or not..

I am 100% sure its not human made. we are way to retarded to build anything to go from 0 km/ h to lightning speed in 1 sec. and the material of the UFO is definitely not from earth. 2 hours have past and i feel weird. feels like my body is Hot as hell and full of energy.when i touch certain things i get a Zap .like touching a electrified fence. and dust stick to my neck. ??

its 04:18 now and i feel sleepy and i need a cold shower..

Good night guys and i totally understand if nobody believes me.

I dont type this to get fame or anything. i only want to tell someone my story.

Best regards
Anders Bergstrand
