| Posted: 22 Jan 2011 12:16 PM PST  Cayce was born on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1877, and his psychic abilities began to appear as early as his childhood. He was able to see and talk to his late grandfather's spirit, and often played with "imaginary friends" whom he said were spirits on the other side. Through the years, Cayce would find that he had the ability to put himself into a sleep-like state by lying down on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach. In this state of relaxation and meditation, he was able to place his mind in contact with all time and space...the universal consciousness, also known as the super-conscious mind. In 1910, the New York Times carried two pages of headlines and pictures in which he was declared the "World's Most Mysterious Man" A national magazine ran an article titled, "Miracle Man of Virginia Beach", and Cayce was swamped with an avalanche of 25,000 requests for medical help. President Woodrow Wilson sought the services of Edgar Cayce for healing and guidance while he was President and conceiving the idea of the League of Nations. The Outbounder, Healer and Prophet  It made no difference to Cayce whether his patient was sitting next to him in the same room or a total stranger living hundreds of miles away. His preparations for the health reading were always the same. As he himself described it, he would first loosen his clothing in order to have a perfectly freeflowing circulation. He would then lie on the couch in his office, with his head to the south, and his feet to the north. Placing his hands on his forehead between his eyes, he would wait a few moments until he received what he would call the go signal, a flash of brilliant white light. Cayce would then move his hands to his solar plexus, and fall into a trance. His wife would tell him the name and location of the patient, leaving out any mention of age, sex or physical problem. Cayce might pause a while before repeating the name and address until he had succeeded in 'locating' the patient and describing his or her condition. He would then prescribe medication and any other corrective measures, always ending his reading with the words: "We are through." In 1933, he explained that he still understood very little about what he was doing. "Apparently," he said, "I am one of the few who can lay aside their own personalities sufficiently to allow their souls to make this attunement to a universal source of knowledge...but I say this without any desire to brag about it. In fact I do not claim to possess anything that other individuals do not inherently possess. Really and truly, I do not believe there is a single individual that does not possess this same ability I have. I am certain that all human beings have much greater powers than they are ever conscious of...if they would only be willing to pay the price of detachment from self-interest that it takes to develop those abilities." Cayce took a holistic approach to health. He believed that a man was composed of body, mind and spirit, and that all three are one. He talked about consciousness in the cells of the body, each contributing to the total consciousness of the individual. Health, he indicated, would flow from a perfect harmony of body and mind. In accordance with the concept that we are what we eat, think and believe, Cayce would often urge his patients to improve their mental and spiritual outlook in order to regain their health. Cayce's prophetic powers often emerged during readings. Cayce gave advice to businessmen who were worried about the location of their holdings or the stability of their stocks and bonds. Six months before the 1929 stock market crash he warned people to sell everything they owned. He predicted the beginning and end of both the First and Second World Wars. In October 1935, Cayce spoke of the coming holocaust in Europe. The Austrians and Germans, he said, and later the Japanese, would take sides. "Thus an unseen force, gradually growing, must result in an almost direct opposition to the Nazi, or Aryan theme. This will gradually produce a growth of animosities. And unless there is interference by what many call supernatural forces and influences,which are active in the affairs of nations and peoples, the whole world as it were...will be set on fire by militaristic groups and people who are for power expansion." In 1939 he predicted the deaths of two presidents in office; "Ye are to have turmoils...ye are to have strife between capital and labor. Ye are to have a division in thy own land, before ye have the second of the Presidents that next will not live through his office...a mob rule!" President Franklin D. Roosevelt died in office in April 1945. In November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. In 1944, he prophesied that China would one day be "the cradle of Christianity as applied in the lives of men." Through Russia, he said "comes the hope of the world. Not in respect to what is sometimes termed Communism or Bolshevism...no! But freedom...freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man. The principle has been born there. It will take years for it to be crystallized; yet out of Russia comes again the hope of the world." Russia, he said, would be guided by friendship with the United States. It's attempt to rule "not only the economic, but the mental and spiritual life" of its people was doomed to failure. The possibility of a third world war was also predicted. He spoke of strife arising "near the Davis Straits," and "in Libya, and in Egypt, in Ankara, and in Syria; through the straits around those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf." When asked in June 1943 whether it would be feasible to work towards an international currency or a stabilization of international exchange levels when the war had ended, Cayce replied that it would be a long, long time before this would happen. Indeed, he said, "there may be another war over just such conditions." One of Cayce's most striking predictions, particularly in view of many other prophecies relating to the approaching end of the millennium, concern dramatic changes in the Earth's surface in the period of 1958 to 1998. The cause of these he put down to a tilting in the Earth's rotational axis which he said would begin in 1936. He prophesied that the Earth's axis would be shifted by the year 2001, bringing on reversals in climate, "so that where there has been a frigid or semi-tropical climate, there will be a more tropical one, and moss and fern will grow." By this time, he indicated, a new cycle would begin. Future Calamity Cayce's most calamitous prediction came not long before he decided to start scaling back his session workload. He stated...."watch New York, Connecticut and the like. Many portions of the east coast will be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central portion of the United States. Los Angeles, San Francisco, most of all these will be among those that will be destroyed before New York, or New York City itself, will in the main disappear. This will be another generation though, here; while the southern portions of Carolina, Georgia, these will disappear. This will be much sooner. The waters of the Great Lakes will empty into the Gulf of Mexico." None of his predictions ever pinpointed the year 2012.  In the spring of 1944, he became ill and began to grow weak. His own readings advised him to rest, but he felt a tremendous obligation to those who were asking for his help. Finally, he collapsed from sheer exhaustion; he gave his last reading for himself in September of 1944. The reading told him he had to rest. When his wife asked "How long?" the response was "until he is well or dead." Shortly afterwards, he had a stroke and became partially paralyzed. Although Edgar told them he would be healed after the first of the year, they understood what he meant and he died on January 3, 1945. He predicted the date of his burial, January 5, 1945...again, he was correct. ----------  * "There will be upheavals in the Artic and Antarctic that will cause the eruption of volcanoes in the torrid areas, and pole shift." * The greater portion of Europe will be changed in the twinkling of an eye. * Southeast Canada will be safe from earth changes. * Mt. The greater portion of Japan must go into the sea. * The upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of America. * There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for the eruption of volcanoes in the Torrid areas, and there will be shifting then of the poles so that where there has been those of a frigid or the semitropical will become the more tropical, and moss and fern will grow. And these will begin in those periods in '58 to '98, when these will be proclaimed as the periods when His light will be seen again in the clouds. As to times, as to seasons, as to places, ALONE is it given to those who have named the name and who bear the mark of those of His calling and His election in their bodies. To them it shall be given. * As to those things that deal with the mantle of the earth, these shall call upon the mountains to cover many. As ye have seen those in lowly places raised to those of power in the political, in the machinery of nations' activities, so shall ye see those in high places reduced and calling on the waters of darkness to cover them. And those that in the inmost recesses of theirselves awaken to the spiritual truths that are to be given, and those places that have acted in the capacity of teachers among men, the rottenness of those that have ministered in places will be brought to light, and turmoils and strifes shall enter. And, as there is the wavering of those that would enter as emissaries, as teachers, from the throne of life, the throne of light, the throne of immortality, and wage war in the air with those of darkness, then know ye the Armageddon is at hand. * "And those that seek in the latter portion of the year of our Lord as ye have counted in and among men 1936, He will appear!" [Corrected to 1998] * The sun will be darkened and there shall be proclaimed through the spiritual interception in the hearts and minds and souls that his star has appeared and will point the way for those who enter into the Holy of Holies in themselves. Then the direction changes and these forms move upward and the color of the robes grows rapidly lighter. Next, there begin to appear on either side vague outlines of houses, walls, trees, etc., but everything is motionless. As I pass on, there is more light and movement in what appear to be normal cities and towns. With the growth of movement I become conscious of sounds, at first indistinct rumblings, then music, laughter, and singing of birds. There is more and more light, the colors become very beautiful, and there is the sound of wonderful music. The houses are left behind, ahead there is only a blending of sound and color. Quite suddenly I come upon a hall of records. It is a hall without walls, without ceiling, but I am conscious of seeing an old man who hands me a large book, a record of the individual for whom I seek information." NOTE: I find much of Cayce's work fascinating but hardly the work of a prophet...at least not someone under the direct instruction of a Supreme Being. Let's say for argument's sake that Edgar Cayce's incredible predictions all came true. Even under that scenario, it would still be an unexplained phenomenon...not proof that a Deity exists. Call it a cougar, puma or panther. The question is: What's it doing in Chesterfield? The Missouri Department of Conservation isn't quite sure, but most likely the mountain lion was just passing through in search of territory or a mate. The pictures taken Jan. 12 from a stationary wildlife camera mark the first confirmed sighting in St. Louis County since 1994, and the 13th in the state. The department hasn't ruled out that the cougar might belong to one of the 32 people in the state who have permits to keep captive mountain lions. It's checking with them, conservation spokesman Joe Jerek said. In the pictures, the cat is making its way around a tree. Its head is slung low, eyes set aglow from the camera's flash. You can't tell the lion's sex or age, the department said. Although cougar sightings are rare, there have been three in the state since November. The other two were in rural Platte and Ray counties north of Kansas City. Jerek noted that both of those were also near the Missouri River, and it's likely the cougars were simply following the river. The camera that captured the images of the mountain lion was set up by Chesterfield resident Garrett Jensen, a hunter and outdoors enthusiast. Jensen installed the Reconyx HC600 camera on a tree to monitor wildlife in the woods behind his home near Olive Boulevard and White Road. The camera, which is triggered by heat and movement, automatically snapped a series of photos about 2:30 a.m. on Jan 12. Jensen was out of town at the time and discovered the images after he returned home and retrieved the memory card and combed through 2,000 shots. "I was like, 'Oh, my God,' I really couldn't believe it had happened," said Jensen, 36, the owner of a tree service company. "I feel really lucky. ... I called everyone close to me and said, 'You're not going to believe this, I caught a mountain lion on my camera.'" Jensen said conservation officials told him the cat appeared to have weighed about 120 pounds. A Missouri Wildlife Response Team at the site Wednesday did not find any tracks — snow on the ground when the cat appeared had melted — or fur but were still hopeful of finding a DNA sample from the woods, Jensen said. "While we did not find further evidence, such as tracks, we can confirm that the photos are of a mountain lion at the reported location," said Jeff Beringer, a member of the team, said in statement. Jensen installed the wildlife camera only six days before the mountain lion appeared. He picked the location based on the presence of several wildlife trails. The spot is between his home and a lake, making it a popular crossroads for creatures big and small. In addition to the mountain lion, Jensen's camera captured shots of countless deer, squirrels, raccoons and a coyote. Jensen said he put up the camera to see if he would have any success bow-hunting deer on his property. "It's almost just as fulfilling to me to capture stuff like this on camera than to go hunting and try to kill it," Jensen said. "I almost get the same rush with the camera that I do when I go hunting." Mountain lions were largely driven from the state by deforestation and hunting by the 1920s. The state hasn't had a breeding population in decades. The closest groups of cougars live in Nebraska and South Dakota, Jerek said. But their range is immense. "They can travel for hundreds of miles," Jerek said. Despite the recent sightings, there's no evidence suggesting mountain lions are re-establishing a population in Missouri, the Conservation Department said. "In states where even small populations of these big cats exist, there is plenty of hard evidence," Beringer said. "Florida, for example, has a population of only 100 mountain lions, yet several are killed by automobiles each year. They also have other clear, hard evidence like tracks, scat and kill sites." ********** 'Alien Hand Syndrome' sees woman attacked by her own hand An operation to control her epilepsy left Karen Byrne with no control of her left hand. The 55-year-old from New Jersey, now suffers from Alien Hand Syndrome. Her left hand, and occasionally her left leg, behaves as if it were under the control of an alien intelligence. Karen had emerged from the operation with a left hand that was out of control. Karen was unlucky. After the operation, the right side of her brain refused to be dominated by the left. She has now suffered from Alien Hand Syndrome for 18 years, but fortunately for Karen her doctors have now found a medication that seems to have brought the right side of her brain back under some form of control. Click for video **********  Fossil female pterosaur found with preserved egg BBC - For fossil hunters, it represents one of those breakthrough moments. A pterosaur has been found in China beautifully preserved with an egg. The egg indicates this ancient flying reptile was a female, and that realisation has allowed researchers to sex these creatures for the first time. Writing in Science magazine, the palaeontologists make some broad statements about gender differences in pterosaurs, including the observation that only males sported a head-crest. David Unwin, a palaeobiologist in the Department of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, was part of the research team. He told the BBC the discovery was astonishing: "If somebody had said to me a few years back that we would find this kind of association, I would just have laughed and said, 'yeah, maybe in a million years', because these sorts of things are incredibly rare." Pterosaurs, also sometimes referred to as pterodactyls, dominated the skies in the Mesozoic Era, 220-65 million years ago. Although reptiles like the dinosaurs were plodding on the ground below them, they were not actually dinosaurs themselves - a common misconception. This particular specimen has been dated to about 160 million years ago. It was found by Junchang Lü and colleagues and excavated from sedimentary rocks in the famous fossil-hunting grounds of Liaoning Province in China. Liaoning has yielded many of the great finds in recent years, including a series of feathered dinos that have transformed thinking on bird evolution. The new creature is from the Darwinopterus genus, or grouping, but has been dubbed simply as "Mrs T" (a contraction of "Mrs Pterodactyl") by the research team. The state of the egg's shell suggests it was well developed and that Mrs T must have been very close to laying it when she died. She appears to have had some sort of accident as her left forearm is broken. The researchers speculate she may have fallen from the sky during a storm or perhaps a volcanic eruption, sunk to the bottom of a lake and then been preserved in the sediments. "The most important thing about this particular individual is that she has a relatively large pelvis compared to other individuals of the same pterosaur, Darwinopterus," explained Dr Unwin. "This seems quite reasonable - females lay eggs, they probably need a slightly wider pelvis. And then the really exciting thing is that she has a skull which lacks any kind of adornment or decoration whatsoever. When we look at other individuals of Darwinopterus, we find quite a few individuals with a large crest on the skull. "We're very confident now that we're dealing with two genders here - males with big crests and small hips, and females with no crest on the skull and large hips." ********** Mystery goo falls from the sky dailymail - The FAA has launched an investigation after a mysterious greenish-yellow goo fell from the skies and splattered homes in Snyder, New York on Tuesday. Homes along Washington Highway and Berryman Drive are now coated in yellow or green icicles. Walls and pavements are splashed with a bizarre deep brown substance. Neighbours said the mystery substance appeared between the hours of 9am and midnight on Tuesday. However the FAA swiftly launched an investigation and discarded that possibility. A spokesman told ABC: 'The local flight standards inspectors investigated the situation and determined it was not from an aircraft.' So what could it be? The town waste engineer said they are looking in to it - and have already come across some rather distasteful theories. 'We received a call this morning from a woman who owns a house on the same street, Washington Highway. She gave us her explanation because it happened to her last year,' Lisa Kistner, a spokesman for the Amherst Town Supervisor's Office, told ABC. 'She said it's actually because the seagulls eat fast food at McDonald's, which upsets their digestive tract,' Ms Kistner explained. And, Ms Kistner said, as soon as the woman convinced fast food restaurants to clean up the rubbish in their parking lots, she no longer had that problem. 'She suggested that someone check the fast food parking lots because that is probably the root cause of this issue,' Ms Kistner said. The woman's bizarre account may not be that far enough. Bird experts who have examined images of the goo actually agree they do resemble bird droppings - though seagulls were ruled innocent. Instead, according to Cornell's Lab of Ornithology, the droppings may be from a large flock of birds often found in upstate New York in January - European starlings. But with the town's engineers still doing tests, locals will, for now, simply have to wait a bit longer - and perhaps invest in a good umbrella or two.  |
| Inexplicata: The Missing Water Enigma Posted: 22 Jan 2011 08:27 AM PST  During a segment of the Montel Williams Show that aired in 2004, namely a segment featuring controversial psychic Sylvia Browne, a member of the audience asked the seer if she could provide the answer to a nagging question: One morning she awoke to find that all of the water in her swimming pool was completely gone, with no signs of cracks in the cement or tell-tale puddles of water around the structure. Without missing a beat, Browne replied: "Oh, honey, those were aliens!" A frivolous subject to some, but a no-nonsense situation to cattle ranchers and property owners in South America. For a very long time, reports have emerged from isolated farms and suburban residences involving the complete and utter absence of water from in-ground pools and large open water tanks for the sort seen on farms. Very rarely do the victims of this "exfiltration" leap to the conclusion that saucer pilots have stopped by for a sip of H2O: conventional explanations have invariably been sought first – leakage by sudden cracks appearing in pools or the seams of water towers, for example. But the liquid vanishes far too quickly – overnight – for this to be a normal occurrence. An average in-ground swimming pool with a ten thousand gallon capacity will require electric pumps and many hours, perhaps even a day, to empty completely, with the inevitable flooding of the grass surrounding the structure. A mammoth water tank holding five times the amount might take days. Yet the disappearances always occur overnight, or in even less time. The Phenomenon Attracts Attention In June 2002, as Argentina reeled from a history-making wave of cattle mutilations (casually dismissed by the government as the handiwork of the "red-muzzled mouse"), the Nuevo Día newspaper of the town of Coronel Suárez in the Province of Buenos Aires noted that a new high-strangeness situation had emerged as a corollary of sorts to the gruesome mutilations: "Inexplicable lights, and the disappearance of large volumes of water that cannot be rationally explained." The unexplained nocturnal lights – believed to be extraterrestrial craft by some, "witches" by others – were reported frequently during that year's mutilation wave. Descriptions of these sources of light varied, but they were invariably seen on clear nights with out a hint of stormy weather. Most reports agreed that the lights were white orbs that would turn blue during their high-speed maneuvers, making abrupt starts and stops before whizzing out of sight. Fear of ridicule, and even greater fear of having their lives disrupted by curiosity-seekers, kept eyewitnesses from making more of these experiences known to the media. A witness interviewed by "Nuevo Día" said that the lights' behavior was so out of the ordinary that her daughter, who now lived in the city, was afraid to come out into the countryside to visit her parents. People were going to bed early and barricading their doors, just in case. But in April 2002, cattlemen from the town of Salliqueló told reporter Rodolfo Borrego that several thousand liters of water had vanished from their tanques australianos – large open water towers seen in farms throughout Argentina – without the slightest evidence of spillage. A third case had occurred during the mutilation wave. No damage to the tanks was found upon investigation, and any evidence of puddles or waterlogged terrain was absence. "No water was lost – someone came and took water from the place," noted the journalist. The village of La Adela, which at the time had the dubious honor of being the location most affected by the cattle mutilation epidemic, had also reported missing water from its water towers. This was perhaps the more mind-bending anomaly to the local ranchers, as the magnitude of the water held in these containers was between twenty and thirty-five thousand liters (5300 and 9300 US gallons respectively) -- oceans of water that would have taken a number of tanker trucks to empty and cart away, and the average tanker truck has a three thousand gallon capacity. In any case, there were few vehicles of this size were to be found in these rural areas. Nor was the town of Balcarce overlooked by the strange water thieves during this time period. A report from Proyecto Condor (www.ovni.org.ar) Two water tanks were relieved of their contents and refilled after a detailed inspection. The report states: "From that moment onward, nothing unusual was reported again, with both [ranchers] jokingly stating that the same thing was happening to the tanks as was occurring with the mutilated cows." The same report by Proyecto Condor mentions an interesting side note: "Another remarkable thing that occurred last Sunday and Monday (week of July 28, 2002) was that a lemon tree near [the site] was found completely devoid of leaves. This could have been caused by the wind or a heavy frost, but these causes were discarded upon ascertaining that the remaining trees were intact." While unrelated to the water disappearances, it is reminiscent of a case mentioned by Spanish ufologist Salvador Freixedo in his book Visionaries, Mystics and Contactees (Illuminet Press, 1992) involving an unidentified object that hovered over a tree, causing it to wilt and shed its leaves within hours. Perhaps little attention would have been given to the weird disappearances if the phenomenon had not occurred in suburbia as well. The residential outskirts of the communities of Ugarte, Toay, Miguel Riglos and Macachín, among others, began reporting cases of "missing water", but this time from in-ground swimming pools. On June 23, 2002, the city of Jacinto Arauz – well known to readers of INEXPLICATA as a frequently mentioned area for strange phenomena – reported cattle mutilations and the draining of several water towers. In July, a rancher the wilderness of San Germán in the Province of Buenos Aires found that his water tank, stocked with water the previous day, was completely empty the next. Another farmer had noticed "intense lights" in the sky during that week. The upshot of the high-strangeness wave of 2002, according to statistics gathered by the Fundación Argentina de Ovnilogía (FAO), included a grand total of eighty instances of "missing water from Australian tanks", with the city of Goyena, Buenos Aires Province, in the lead with 6 tanks drained of their contents. Stranger still was the case from the community of Buena Vista near the "Pacifico" wilderness, where two large tanks were found drained, were subsequently refilled, and then drained again by mysterious forces. Luis Burgos of the FAO had also noted that cases involving mysterious "ground marks" -- apparently left from above by unknown forces – invariably took place beside small swimming and wading pools. He cited a number of cases, including a 1991 case in Paraná and an earlier one in Yerba Buena (Tucuman Province). During a presentation at the II Congreso Internacional de Ufologia held in the city of Victoria, Entre Rios in 2009, distinguished researcher Oscar Mendoza presented an in-depth examination of the affinity between unidentified flying objects and water, particularly small bodies of water such as pools, ponds and tanks. He noted that the small, bright lights reported during the 2002 cattle mutilations wave could best be described as drones remotely operated by another craft, with a predilection toward lagoons and estuaries, singling out such locations as the Esteros de Iberá in Corrientes and the Setúbal Lagoon in Santa Fé among other locations. Mendoza theorizes that the putative "drones" are engaged in sample-collecting missions (a 1960s and '70s notion that may sound quaint to us nowadays) but that the still waters of the "Australian tanks", estuaries and swimming pools, which are perfectly still and unused in the winter months, contain types of algae that may be of interest. Water would be drawn up through the "tractor beams" reported in many cases and subsequently dumped in an unknown location after the algae had been separated. Blue-green algae, particularly spirulina, he theorizes, would be of particular interest to alien visitors for its medicinal and curative properties. A 2006 Disappearance But incidents involving the mysterious removals of water did not end with the cattle mutilation wave. In early January 2006, close to twenty thousand liters of water disappeared overnight from a water tower in Cañada de Luque in northern Cordoba Proivnce. The tank's owner, Domingo Ordóñez, had checked on the water supply the previous day, and could not understand how such a massive loss could have occurred in less than twenty-four hours. No traces of water seepage were found on the tank upon subsequent investigation. Although the prevailing temperature had been in excess of one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, the rate of evaporation could not account for the disappearance of the fluid, particularly when the tank was equipped with a pump device that would re-supply it if the water went below a certain level. A report provided by the Circulo Ovnilógico Riocuartense (C.O.R.) indicated that barely ten centimeters of water remained in the tank. No traces of disturbed sediment were in evidence and the tank showed no outward signs of humidity. Researchers from the organization canvassed Ordoñez's neighbors to see if any unusual objects had been seen in the sky the previous evening, but their efforts were in vain. For the sake of completeness, it should also be mentioned that large glacial lakes in the Andean Cordillera were also drained. This was the case of the Témpanos lake in southern Chile, whose waters disappeared in 2007, leaving icebergs stranded on the rocky lake bottom. Scientists explained that the water had vanished through crevasses. Similar phenomena, however, had not been reported before or since. The Military Base's Story Pachi LaFata, a reporter with Argentina's Diario Popular, uncovered a missing water case that had been concealed by the military since it took place in November 1999 at 12th Infantry Regiment Base in the city of Santa Fe. The armed forces succeeded in covering up the fact that a one hundred thirty foot flying object had not only hovered over the facility, but that an aboveground water tower and two underground cisterns had been left without a drop of water. The story finally emerged in 2010 through the efforts of the Visión OVNI research group and its investigators Luis Brussa, Ariel Maderna and Fabian Rossi. Brussa, the lead researcher, managed to secure permission from the base commandant to conduct an investigation, even after having plainly stated the nature of the research and the conclusions that would be published. Sergeant Carlos Villano, who had been present at the 1999 experience, told the Visión OVNI crew that it all began with a phone call from the director of the grade school that operates within the base's perimeter. The administrator indicated that the building's rest rooms were out of water, and the subofficer had been dispatched to look into the situation. He discovered that both the cistern and water tower were devoid of fluid (the researchers noted that the cistern was 50 feet deep and eight meters in diameter). At the same time, the subofficer noticed a strange circular impression on the ground. More importantly, the Visión OVNI researchers managed to speak to direct witnesses of the incident: one was a twenty-five year old custodian at the time, and was playing soccer at the base's soccer field. After 21:00 hours, the custodian and his cousin noticed a bright light in the water tank's direction, but thought it came from the headlights of a heavy vehicle coming down the street. It turned out that some local residents had also felt strange buzzing sounds and electrical interference at the time, with brown-outs throughout the area. Others reported seeing a circular light flying at low speed and with an estimated diameter of 98 to 130 feet. Fill'er Up! UFOs (unidentified flying objects in the strictest sense of the acronym, not alien spacecraft) have reportedly helped themselves to water all over the world, mainly from open sources like lakes and seas. Perhaps the reader will be most familiar with the 1966 UFO sightings over Pompton Lakes in Northern New Jersey, where local authorities received phone calls from frightened local residents reporting "shining lights flying over the Wanaque Reservoir" and exerting a strange influence over its waters, causing it to be "drawn upward...sucked upward" an estimated 250 feet into the air, according to a police report. Among the better known cases we also find Australia's Gosford incident (1994) which was witnessed by local residents and law enforcement officers alike, all of them describing the object as emitting "rays of light" while the water roiled beneath it. Carl Feindt's invaluable UFOs and Water lists cases going back as far as 1914 (in the vicinity of Georgian Bay, Ontario) and as recently as 2009 (Cinderford, UK). Addressing the layman's description of an unknown object "sucking up water", Feindt offers the following explanation: "This column, I believe, is caused by the rotation of a field in a vertical plane that encompasses the UFO." The rotation of the object's magnetic field would be perceived "as a horizontal rotation of one part of the UFO, causing a swirling vortex to be formed below the UFO. This can be equated to a vortex similar to a person rotating a finger through still waters in a pot of water at a rapid rate – eventually causing a maelstrom to occur." Australian researchers Bill Chalker and Keith Basterfield investigated a case in Rosedale, Victoria involving water absconded by a UFO from a water tank in September 1980 (http://www.theozfiles.com/rosedale.html). The main witness to the case described the object as a "domed and with a white top" with blue and orange lights, and an estimated diameter of 26 feet. The object, according to the report "progressed over a paddock, passed by a haystack and appeared to rest over a distant, open-topped, 10,000 gallon concrete water tank for an estimated minute before moving to a stationary position apparently on the ground to the left of the tank, as viewed from the house." Upon inspection it was discovered that the tank's ten thousand gallon supply of fluid was gone, leaving only a knee-deep accumulation of mud, with algae stuck to the walls. "It was estimated that it would take 72 hours or so to empty the tank by normal pipe means." We can see that despite claims to the contrary, the "missing water" enigma is not exclusively an Argentinean situation and has been with us since the early days of the UFO phenomenon. As for a satisfactory answer? There is none.
