Strangeness In the Desert - Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport

The following narrative was posted on the MUFON CMS on 1/27/2011. The incident started on 1/10/2011. This is quite an odd report...I'm posting here only because of the 'strangeness' associated with it. I'd be interested in commentary related to this report.

I live across the street from the Laughlin/Bullhead, Arizona Airport. It is a small airport limited to small craft and a daily single line jumbo jets service which normally has about three landings and departures daily. Listening, I noticed that the jets had stopped landing that morning and only silence filled the normally noisy morning air. I turned on my police scanner to see if there had been a red alert or some other government action that might cease air traffic and listened to the airport frequency. The frequency had an issued alert that normal traffic would be suspended but did not specify why, it gave wind direction and other pertinent information for craft to land however. Mid morning, jets, I believed to be stealth bombers arrived. I did not see how many until the last day they were here, others, former military men who live here as well, claimed that while they had not see that particular jet, it resembled B-16. They began a series of sorties over the surrounding desert regions.

Mid morning, just shortly after they arrived, two men, one elder (early fifties to early sixties), and one younger man (mid 20's) arrived. They took up residence in the room beside my own which has an unobstructed view of the airport. But for all appearances sake, they rested from their trip for the rest of the daylight hours. Since the motel I live in is gay friendly, in all honesty I thought they were lovers and didn't question their true intent. That night, at around 9: p.m. I went to walk my dog, they were unloading their small blue truck of their personal belongings and I happened, (because I am a nosy person) to glace back over my shoulder and noticed what looked like a pup tent erected over one of the double beds in their room. I thought this was weird and noticed a bunch of wires and what-nots but basically reminded myself to mind my own business and walked the dog.

That night, I heard many different electronic sounds coming from their room. The next morning the entire airport was dominated by the fighter jets and their sorties. The noise was unbelievable and they took off and landed on a regular basis. Out of curiosity I asked the motel management, (whom I am friends with), if they knew what was going on over there and they said they didn't have a clue. I also asked about the two men whom were next to me and again, the management drew blanks, just that their truck bore Wyoming plates and they were probably gay. Again, that night I heard electronic noises and noticed they had obstructed the nosy view of any onlooking eye by placing a sleeping bag over their window but since I was at a dead end and their affairs were their own, I tried to ignore them.

The next morning the older man began what would become a daily habit, he would leave early in the morning and appear to be going to Laughlin to gamble or what-not leaving the younger man alone in the room, he'd honk twice as he was leaving but the younger man never left with him.

The jets continued to fly sorties all day and at night, a host of helicopters would begin to take flight as the jets appeared to settle down for the night and the helicopters which appeared as Search and Rescue craft being red and white in color, would fly in circular patterns all night long over the airport. I continued to hear the electronic sounds coming from the room next door and as I was passing the room, noticed the younger man had left to retrieve something from their truck. When he noticed that I observed him from the balcony he kind of acted like he was overcome with himself, not knowing what to do and almost froze suspended half way inside the truck until my dog and I passed him on our way to the field behind the motel.

As the days passed, not frequently but now and then, we'd see the younger man just standing, gazing from the end of the balcony into the barren desert. He never smiled, never spoke and I assumed was mentally challenged and began to believe maybe the elder guy was his father rather than his lover and maybe the elder guy went gambling every day, since he left in that direction but then one morning as the jets took flight, I noticed the elder man drove towards the right hand lane, which would have taken him to the Bullhead Parkway and hence to the airport. My son, who has a room two doors down from mine began to make it his business to find out what was wrong with the younger man, (mostly out of concern for his welfare since the older man left him alone everyday and if he was incapacitated in any way, we or at least he might offer to be there for him if needed), and my son attempted several times to speak with him but it appeared, either I was correct, and he was mentally challenged or something else was wrong with him as he had no normal human responses. Again, I mentioned to the management that I continued to hear electronic noises come from their room all night long and asked if they knew anything more about those two, but the office appeared to believe my original thought, that they were gay lovers and maybe they were playing video games all throughout the night on the T.V.

Now, I would have stopped here and as everyone else just thought that it was normal for air traffic to be interrupted in a tourist town that depends heavily upon all tourist and that maybe these two mysterious men who arrived the same day as the jets, in fact had nothing to do with the jets, with one exception. Everyone had a different theory who these jets were and why they had come to this remote town, essentially seized the local air port and were flying sorties above the desert but the night before they all left, a larger craft arrived under the cloak of darkness. We saw it quite by accident since it arrived about the same time we were walking the dog. From the balcony we could see the entire runway even though it was in pitch dark except for the tower as you could see apartment and house lights on either side of the airport. The craft was huge, (huge meaning it blocked completely view of the Southeastern horizon line which would have been dotted with lights from homes and streets),it was triangular and it was black, (assumed color), or as dark as the night, it had three lights around it and as this huge thing descended onto the airport it made absolutely no sound as it apparently landed. No jet engine noises, nothing.

I was obviously delighted to see this triangular black craft as I had never seen one before and was squealing and didn't realize we were right in front of the mens room. The younger one came out of the room and we both turned around to apologize for making so much noise and again, he froze, staring at the craft and back to us. So I said "hi" hoping we didn't disturb him too much and he quickly shut the door on the both of us. By the time we looked back, the craft had apparently landed as we just didn't see it anymore. My son was trying to convince me that this craft was something identifiable as I was trying to convince him it was the same triangular black craft many Arizonians have sighted over the years for it made no sound and appeared to glide to the earth or use some gravitational field to land.

The next morning as I took the dog outdoors there were three jets which took off side by side and flew north. By the time I arrived back at the motel the two men were packing up and leaving also. While I went to my room, I did secret watching them from behind my curtain to see what they brought out of that room and was amazed to watch them openly bring electronic scopes, wires and bags of stuff out and down the steps but the last thing I watched the younger of the two bring out and begin to drop down to the older man below, was silver insulated wall panels, (silver covering in a quilted pattern over a foam center, about 4' x 6' rectangular shaped), which I have heard some people use to block out signals from entering their homes. He dropped them down to the old man, who now appeared energetically charged, and I counted eight panels which they folded up, packed into the small camper shelled pick up truck and then as mysteriously as they appeared, they too, with the jets left Bullhead and by mid day, the tourist jets were landing at our airport as though nothing had happened.

Normal air traffic resumed and honestly no one I have spoken to appears to know exactly what happened here except some story that was going around that these jets came from Canada and the Canadians had permission to use the airport for their task, what ever that was, I was also told that the helicopters must have been Canadian as well since they were red and white but I haven't spoken to anyone who knows for certain about any of this stuff. All in all, they were here about one full week. I haven't spoken to anyone who also saw the black craft, it could be few people actually saw it as it was very cold that night and you'd have to have a reason to be outdoors, but we never saw it leave, I just doubt it was on the runway when normal traffic resumed as tourist would have wondered what it was. It must have left during the early morning hours.

Honestly there is no reason to contact me over the sighting since I really don't have any conclusions or answers and I understand only too well that in most of these cases there are cover stories which the public is expected to accept without question, I am certain that everything that went on here with the exception of the triangular black craft, will have a cover story but it makes no sense for Canadians to fly all the way down to a tiny little town to begin maneuvers that equate to test flying jets which I am certain Nellis AFB or any other northern military air field could accommodate with a lot less attention and then end by a legendary black craft landing on the field and disappearing overnight, along with two very strange men whom said less than a few sentences the entire time they were here. I did take phone camera photographs of the jets and from the land below, it is verifiable that they are flying over Laughlin/Bullhead Airport but I have not been able to identify the jets. Sorry I don't have more.

Fortean / Alternative News: UFO Sighting Opens 'Third Eye', Bomb-Detecting Plant and U.S. Troop Suicides

1961 UFO sighting gives cop third-eye, opens doors of perception

huliq - It's been 50 years since Jim Mead witnessed his first close encounter with a UFO in a suburb of San Francisco while serving as a night watchman; now, looking back at that 1961 UFO sighting, Mead realizes that "it changed me for the better because it gave me a third-eye and opened my mind to a much bigger universe where we're a part of it."

Having a "third eye," or an inner eye that expands clairvoyance has long been viewed as a perk for those who've had a close encounter or witnessed a UFO. The third eye is also an ancient and mystical concept that's tied to certain Eastern and Western spiritual traditions.

"I was working as a security guard at a Montgomery Ward store outside of San Francisco. It was late at night and over the parking lot was a huge disc hovering with bright lights. There was no sound. It was also silent. It hovered for awhile and then went straight-up, sideways and disappeared. I will never forget it," says Mead, who later became a L.A. police officer and then a psychologist before retiring due to a stroke.

He now lives in Reedsport, and operates an antique store.

When discussing this close encounter, Mead says he still feels apprehension and a faint though distant nervous anxiety.

"Seeing something like that never leaves you," he says with a look that's compassionate, troubled and still.

"At the time, I told my supervisor and he saw it also. But, we decided not to tell anyone because, after all this was the early Sixties, and people would have thought us nuts," Mead adds.

As for how this UFO sighting has impacted his life, Mead said it simply makes him feel more aggressive and alive, and he was almost up on his toes telling this story about something that happened 50 years ago.

"Seeing it changed me," he adds while pointing to his career choices afterwards. Mead said it "somehow" opened my eyes, or gave him a third-eye that served him well as a police officer in Los Angeles and later as a psychologist investing child abuse cases.

"I was able to see the evil in a person's eyes, and just know what was on the up and up and what was not real or truthful. It was certainly one of those life moments that you never forget," he says.

Today, Mead still thinks his story about his first UFO sighting seems too fragile for a world that spends more time debunking than proving alien life on Earth is real, and here now.

"Why is the government, and world governments not telling us the truth about UFOs," asks the former cop as he smiles suggestively. "Maybe it's because nobody will believe it, and that's the best way to cover something up. Simply admit it's crazy and unbelieveable."

There are no easy or clear answers as to why Mead's question remains unanswered now 50 years later, despite the intense scrutiny of the UFO community to prove the authenticity of decades of UFO evidence.

It's also interesting to note that Mead's 1961 UFO sighting happened at a time in the early 1960's when "Project Blue Book" was being criticized by politicians, scientists and law enforcement that told the public it was just pie in the sky, and not real.

Still, there's always been conspiracy theories about UFOs that simply won't go away, says Mead.

A news story in a local Bend, Oregon, newspaper from back in 1949 noted pairs of disc-shaped UFOs "dancing" in the sky over Bend. During this say period, these disc-shaped UFOs were spotted up and down the ancient and winding Umpqua River that runs past Reedsport where Mead now lives.

While Reedsport has long been considered a timber town, that's not been the case over the past few decades with the collapse of the Oregon timber industry. Today, it's a quiet town that sits on the estuary of the Umpqua River where ancient Native American tribes once lived.

Steve Hallett is a retired logger from the region who's hobby is collecting artifacts of the Lower Umpqua Native American tribe that "worshipped the hovering flying discs."

Hallett points to Native American oral history records that go back to the 1850's "where the Indians would speak of seeing the lights over their river.

Moreover, when the town of Reedsport was first established and named for a local settler, Alfred W. Reed, historical records state that Reed noted the local Indians fascination with "lights in the sky."

More U.S. Soldiers Killed Themselves Than Died in Combat in 2010

good - For the second year in a row, more American soldiers—both enlisted men and women and veterans—committed suicide than were killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Excluding accidents and illness, 462 soldiers died in combat, while 468 committed suicide. A difference of six isn't vast by any means, but the symbolism is significant and troubling. In 2009, there were 381 suicides by military personnel, a number that also exceeded the number of combat deaths.

Earlier this month, military authorities announced that suicides amongst active-duty soldiers had slowed in 2010, while suicides amongst reservists and people in the National Guard had increased. It was proof, they said, that the frequent psychological screenings active-duty personnel receive were working, and that reservists and guardsmen, who are more removed from the military's medical bureaucracy, simply need to begin undergoing more health checks. This new data, that American soldiers are now more dangerous to themselves than the insurgents, flies right in the face of any suggestion that things are "working." Even if something's working, the system is still very, very broken.

One of the problems hindering the military's attempt to address soldier suicides is that there's no real rhyme or reason to what kind of soldier is killing himself. While many suicide victims are indeed afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after facing heavy combat in the Middle East, many more have never even been deployed. Of the 112 guardsmen who committed suicide last year, more than half had never even left American soil.

"If you think you know the one thing that causes people to commit suicide, please let us know," Army Vice Chief of Staff General Peter Chiarelli told the Army Times, "because we don't know what it is."

Professor breeds bomb-detecting plants

gizmodo - The next hydrangea you grow could literally save your life. With the help of the Department of Defense, a biologist at the Colorado State University has taught plant proteins how to detect explosives.

Never let it be said that horticulture can't fight terrorism.

Picture this at an airport, perhaps in as soon as four years: a terrorist rolls through the sliding doors of a terminal with a bomb packed into his luggage (or his underwear). All of a sudden, the leafy, verdant gardenscape ringing the gates goes white as a sheet. That's the proteins inside the plants telling authorities that they've picked up the chemical trace of the guy's arsenal.

It only took a small engineering nudge to deputize a plant's natural, evolutionary self-defense mechanisms for threat detection. "Plants can't run and hide," says June Medford, the biologist who's spent the last seven years figuring out how to deputize plants for counterterrorism. "If a bug comes by, it has to respond to it. And it already has the infrastructure to respond."

That would be the "receptor" proteins in its DNA, which respond naturally to threatening stimuli. If a bug chews on a leaf, for instance, the plant releases a series of chemical signals called terpenoids - "a cavalry call," Medford says, that thickens the leaf cuticle in defense. Medford and her team designed a computer model to manipulate the receptors: basically, the model instructs the protein to react when coming in contact with chemicals found in explosives or common air or water pollutants.

FAA warns of ongoing GPS issues in southeastern US due to Defense Department 'tests'

engadget - Don't panic, but anyone planning on using GPS in the southeastern US for the next month or so will likely want to make sure they have a fallback option. That's according to a flight advisory just issued by the FAA, which warns pilots that their GPS signal "may be unreliable or unavailable" due to "GPS tests" that the Department of Defense will be conducting between January 20th and February 22nd. Details are fairly light beyond that, but the FAA does note that when the "tests" occur they will be active for 45 minutes, and be followed by 15 minutes of off time -- additional notices to pilots will apparently be issued at least 24 hours prior to any test. Of course, while this particular advisory is directed at pilots, it will presumably will also affect all other GPS devices, as the FAA doesn't mention any GPS issues specific to aviation. The real question, however, is just what those mysterious "GPS tests" are -- if they're, in fact, GPS tests at all... - Official FAA warning PDF

Was Time-Travel an Element in the M6 Paranormal Event?

Mark Collins has forwarded an overview of the event. I have included links to previous reports as well:

I first became aware of the crash on the M6 when my brother was traveling to a friend's party in London and was on the same stretch of the M6, about a quarter of a mile behind the crash, as it happened. He felt there was something strange about the scene as he drove past it and suggested I check it out. He said he saw a few plain clothes officers at the scene examining three of the vehicles and also that the tarmac showed signs of being burnt in a line across the southbound carriageway.

As a journalist I believed this was more than your usual auto crash. I think my natural journalistic inquisitiveness took over.

When I visited the scene the day after the accident it was clear that the markings on the carriageway were significant to the investigation team and this immediately got my attention. I was fascinated by how meticulous the team were still examining the banking on the side of the carriageway and also why they were taking samples of the burnt tarmac from the hard shoulder; these were things I would have not normally expected to see at a crash scene.

I was able to talk with one of the investigation team and this became the basis for my first report. He insisted that I did not use his name or identify him in anyway. He told me not to quote him in the article because any comments would be open to both interpretation and also challenge but I was still keen to report on the incident given what he was intimating in that conversation.

Soon after I was contacted by a Detective Silverton! Detective Silverton is part of a special investigation team based in London but not connected to the Metropolitan police. They apparently deal with investigations that don't fit the norm.

Initially I was terrified as this was only really something I was doing on the side and I never imagined that anything would come of it; least of all being contacted by what turned out to be one of the lead investigators.

Of course, being one of very few journalists to actually report the accident meant that Detective Silverton perhaps felt he could trust the way I was reporting it.

What really happened that day on the M6. I don't know. As a reporter you try to report the facts and not get caught up in the hype of what could have happened and also what may have happened unless there is evidence to support it.

The only facts I can point to are the burnt tarmac, the fact that the three vehicles that caused the accident allegedly contained no signs of human tissue that would be consistent with an accident and that such a high level team were brought into investigate the accident in the first place.

These facts alone suggest that there are still many elements of the accident that remain unexplained.

As with anything of this nature, good information is hard to source and many of the people you speak to are simply too vague in what they say to the point that it would be laughed at in any report of this type.

It is only since Detective Silverton got in touch with me directly that I have had any constancy of contact; and even then it is when he says he is ready to carry out an interview. (More to come)

Do I have any special insight into what is going on outside of my reports?

That is very difficult. I have been shown pieces of evidence to substantiate the reports; some photographic and some physical. This evidence does support what I have been told but I have been given strict guidelines as to what I can actually write so reporting on the accident in its entirety is impossible.

But there have been items I have seen that are beyond my explanation; I think as a reporter you blank out the why or the how and just report the facts.
