Berwyn UFO Incident: Combination of an Earthquake and Meteor?

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 10:56 AM PDT

BBC - A 1974 'UFO incident' in the Berwyn Mountains, dubbed the Welsh Roswell, was dismissed as an earthquake and a meteor combining, official files show.

A huge bang and a brilliant light in the sky were seen over north east Wales and there were later claims a spaceship crash was concealed.

Comparisons were drawn with Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, where it is claimed an alien crash was concealed

A Ministry of Defence investigation said there was no Welsh UFO.

The files show it was explained a noisy earth tremor coinciding with a meteor burning up in the atmosphere.

A search and rescue team was scrambled from RAF Valley on Anglesey, but found no wreckage on the mountainside.

The MOD investigation found that there were five other reports of UFOs seen over the UK at about 10pm on 23 January 1974, when the Berwyn Mountains incident happened.

Three sightings were in the Home Counties, one in Lincolnshire and another in Sussex.

Witnesses reported seeing a bright light in the north west whcih seemed to fall towards the horizon.

It is certain to the minds of both my friends who came with me and to me that we were visited by an object that evening"

An expert who undertook independent research into the Berwyn Mountains incident for the British Astronomical Society reported that a "fireball" was visible over most of the UK that night.

Sightings were received from Somerset, Norfolk, Manchester and Edinburgh, the files notes.

The fireball descended from about 120km in the sky to about 35km before disintegrating over Manchester, the expert found.

Brynmor John, who was then junior RAF minister, explained the official position in a letter to Dafydd Elis-Thomas, then a local MP, in May 1974.

Mr John wrote: "As suggested by the descriptions reported, it seems the phenomena could well have been caused by a meteor descending through the atmosphere burning up and finally disintegrating before it reached the ground.

"Such a hypothesis would also explain the absence of any signs of impact.

"It has also been suggested that at 8.32pm that evening there was an earth tremor in the Berwyn Mountains which produced a landslide with noises like detonation.

"The latter aspect is however outside the field of this department," Mr John added.

But the MoD's conclusions did not convince all those who witnessed the "Welsh Roswell".

The files also include a letter from one local who wrote: "That 'something" came down in the Berwyn Mountains on that night I am certain.

"It is certain to the minds of both my friends who came with me and to me that we were visited by an object that evening."

NOTE: "Welsh Roswell...dismissed as an earthquake and a meteor combining." Wow...that's some coincidence! Honestly, after all the hoopla about British MoD deciding to disclose UFO files, it seems that the flow of information is suddenly slowing or being altered. I have to wonder if something really is in store for us in the near future. Below are some previous postings on the Berwyn Incident...Lon

New 'Welsh Roswell' Witness Emerges After 34 Years

dailymail - One of Britain's greatest UFO mysteries deepened last night after a new witness emerged after 34 years.

The Government allegedly covered up the "Welsh Roswell" incident, in the Berwyn mountain range in 1974, after scores of residents reported a massive tremor, strange lights in the sky and "Men in Black" scouring the area.

Claims that aliens crash-landed and their bodies were then transported by the Ministry of Defence to the top-secret research base Porton Down in Wiltshire were dismissed by Whitehall officials.

But suspicions about what really happened were re-ignited in May this year when hundreds of MoD documents about UFO sightings were released, with none containing any details about the Berwyn incident, reviving rumours of a cover-up.

Now, fresh evidence by retired gamekeeper Geraint Edwards, of Llandderfel, Denbighshire, has reopened the debate.

He told the makers of a new Channel Five documentary, which is being broadcast tonight, how he stood in amazement as a flying saucer hovered for 10 minutes above the mountains before it disappeared into space at impossible speed.

He said: "It was definitely a flying saucer. It was a pity I didn't have a camera because it was there for at least 10 minutes, just hovering.

"We were on the way down to play darts when something caught our eye in the south-east, so we stopped.

"It looked like a rugger ball, but the ends of it were more pointy.

"When it took off, it just went like lightning on the same line as it hovered.

"It hovered back to the mountain, and (then it was) gone.

"I wrote it down in my diary. It was 6.45pm on the Friday night.

"If we were coming back from the pub, people would be saying, 'they've had one or two (drinks)' but we were going to the pub."

His former neighbour, Pat Evans, a district nurse who gave a detailed eye-witness account of the phenomenon at the time, moved abroad to escape the mass attention she attracted from the media, UFO investigators and scientists.

But Mr Edwards has decided to speak out for the first time about his close encounter on February 15, 1974, for tonight's television programme re-examining the evidence.

Three weeks earlier, on January 23, the villages of Llandrillo and Llandderfel, near Corwen, were rocked by a tremor measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale.

Reports of unexplained strange coloured lights and objects in the sky immediately afterwards and unusual military activity in the following weeks fuelled speculation that a UFO had crash-landed.

Sceptics maintain the explanation was an unlikely combination of an earthquake which struck Wales at the same time that a meteor shower passed overhead, and that "Men in Black" who residents reported seeing were actually seismologists researching the quake.

They also insist Pat Evans, who saw a "bright orb, the size of the Moon" with twinkling around the edges, was actually looking at a lamp carried by poachers on a nearby mountainside.

The absence of any material on the incident from the newly released MoD documents in May has roused suspicions from other eye-witnesses.

Farmer Huw Lloyd, 48, who was a teenager at the time, said: "Whatever it was, it was kept quiet. And things that have happened have been covered up."

Retired North Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Elfed Roberts, who was a sergeant at the time of UFO incident, was rushing to Llandrillo moments after the tremor with his superior when they saw the mysterious lights.

He said: "As we were driving, all of a sudden we saw this green light in the sky ahead of us and it seemed to be an arcing light, but it was very sudden, totally unexpected, different to anything ever seen before."

New Information On Berwyn UFO Incident

dailymail - Documents have surfaced which could shed new light on one of North Wales' greatest UFO mysteries.

The Berwyn mountains incident in 1974 has remained an enigma ever since, with reports of lights in the sky, an earthquake, claims of a crashed object and a cover up afterwards.

In fact some claim a UFO crashed, and "bodies" were retrieved and taken away by soldiers.

Now the Daily Post has acquired official documents showing how police were bombarded with calls and eye witness accounts of the strange event.

The "Welsh Roswell" incident happened one dark winter's night on January 23, 1974, in the Berwyn Mountains between Bala and Corwen.

Families in the villages of Llandderfel and Llandrillo were settling down to watch TV, an explosion was heard and the ground shook. It measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.

As people ran from their houses, fearing another tremor, they saw a blaze of light on the mountainside above.

A local nurse, who believed an aircraft had crashed, drove to the site and saw a pulsating orange and red glow on the hillside and other lights.

Police converged on the area and emergency services were put on standby.

Searches were undertaken but, surprisingly, officially nothing was found.

Gwynedd Police received a number of reports that night from people claiming they had seen a UFO. The documents give a fascinating insight into what went on.

l Gwynedd Police Constabulary Major Incident Log – explosion – 21.10pm PC receiving 999 calls of UFO.

l A witness who saw an object on the hillside said in a statement: "Saw bright red light, like coal fire red. Large perfect circle. Like a big bonfire. Could see lights above and to the right and white lights moving to bottom. Light changed colour to yellowish white and back again."

l A message in a police log said: "There's been a large explosion in the area and there is a large fire in the mountainside. I am speaking from... and can see the fire where I am."

l Telex message to chief constable Gwynedd constabulary. 22.00pm approx 23/1/74: Saw bright green lights, object with tail – travelling west. Saw about Bangor direction – dropped down.

l At approx 10pm on 23/1/74: Saw a circular light in the sky at an estimated height of 1,500 feet. This object exploded and pieces fell to the ground. Mr ...... estimates the pieces would have fallen into the sea between Rhyl and Liverpool.

UFO researcher Russ Kellett has studied the event and is convinced something extraordinary happened.

He said: "There is conclusive evidence because of other documents I have that mention these objects on that night from Newcastle down to the Home Counties up to Coventry being seen in the sky.

"Five witnesses who were there on that night, who I know through a friend, said there was a crashed craft by the side of the road near Llandrillo.

"It became known as the Berwyn Mountains incident because there were two objects that came down at two separate locations."

UFO sightings across the UK from 1978-1987 were released in eight MoD files to the National Archive yesterday.

Boeing 'Flying Saucer' UFO Prototype...or Hype?

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 09:22 PM PDT

I found this item on eBay this morning...anybody have information on this? I posted the owner's item description below:

For all you believers out there, this is the closest thing you will ever find to proof that flying saucers do exist.

Here is what I can say for sure....

This model was produced by Boeing in Seattle and was acquired from the remnants of Boeing surplus.

It was sold by a disgruntled employee who was told to get it off his desk because it was a safety hazard, (that's Boeing for you).

Construction appears to be carbon fiber with a solid brass base used for all custom Boeing prototype models.

My contacts at Boeing is an engineer responsible for a certain aspect of testing (1 of 3) at Boeing and who possessed a national security clearance refused to confirm or deny the existence of an actual prototype.

Internet searches provided very curiously similar construction photographs, reportedly of a heat shield.

The saucer call letters correspond to a user name in German active in aeronautical news groups as does the Lauda Air insignia. (the latter fact seemed to make my contact squirm a little in his chair when I told him)

That is all I know, you be the judge...but it sounds like part of a military industrial complex conspiracy to me.

NOTE: The seller included an image of the heat shield for NASA's Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle that Boeing developed the past few years. I'm sure the seller hyped most of the description in order to sell this 'prototype'...nonetheless, it's an interesting piece that I have not seen before...Lon

Farmer Shocked as Cow Gives Birth...to a Pig?

zimdiaspora - A Zimbabwean farmer was left stunned when his cow gave birth to a piglet, it has been reported.

The farmer, Mr Tinos Mberi of Chatsworth in Masvingo eastern highlands of the country said he could not believe his eyes when he saw the strange animal.

He said it was impossible for a pig to mate with a cow.

"The whole body and size was that of a piglet. The nose and mouth was like that of a pig, except that it did not have a hairy body," said Mr Mberi.

He said it was difficult to attribute the strange occurrence to anything other than witchcraft.

"I think it is the work of some black magicians. How can anyone explain such a horrible occurrence. It is the work of black magicians who are trying to scare me off the land," said Mr Mberi.

He said this was the first time that his cow has given birth and he had not expected what he got.

The Masvingo Provincial Veterinary Officer, Dr Ernest Dzimwasha, said there was nothing unusual about the incident although it was rare.

"It was simply a deformed calf that looked like a pig. Some deformed calves may look like monsters and we also have some that are known as bulldog-calves.

"These may look like a bulldog but it's all due to deformities, just like in human beings," he explained.

Triceratops May 'Never Have Existed'

dailymail - It is one of the most recognisable dinosaurs, part of the Holy Trinity of childhood favourites alongside the brontosaurus and the mighty T-Rex.

But now scientists say that the fearsome three-horned triceratops may never have existed.

Instead new research has raised the possibility that the triceratops was just a young version of a different dinosaur known as a torosaurus.

John Scannella and Jack Horner at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana analysed skulls from dinosaurs that had been classified as triceratops and torosaurus.

Both animals had three horns but at different angles and the torosaurus' neck-frill was thinner, smoother and had two holes in it.

But the researchers say that the triceratops was just a young version of a torosaurus and its horns changed shape as the dinosaur aged.

When it reached maturity the holes developed in its neck-frill.

The research, which appeared in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, says that the neck-frill and horns changed shape as the animal aged because they were spongy and would not harden until the dinosaur was an adult.

Scannella says. 'Even in the most mature specimens that we've examined, there is evidence that the skull was still undergoing dramatic changes at the time of death.'

The researchers looked at 9 triceratops skulls and nine torosaurus skulls, which are far rarer.

They discovered that the oldest triceratops skulls showed that thinning in the neck-frill bone where the holes of the torosaurus would eventually appear.

The finding casts doubt on previous theories that the frill on the triceratops was used as a defensive mechanism. Instead it was probably used to display the animal's maturity, Scannella told New Scientist.

All torosaurus specimens will now be reclassified as triceratops, the scientists said.

in 1903 it was discovered that the brontosaurus was actually a juvenile version of an Apatosaurus, a species that had already been discovered.

In 1877, palaeontologist Othniel Charles Marsh discovered a partial skeleton of what turned out to be a juvenile Apatosaurus.

Two years later, he discovered an intact skeleton of a much larger animal, minus the skull. He added a skull found nearby and named the new animal Brontosaurus (Thunder Lizard).

It later emerged he had taken the head of a Camarasaurus and placed it onto the body of a mature Apatosaurus.

The error was not discovered until 1975.

Beam Me Up, Scotty

npr - "Quantum entanglement" may sound like an awful sci-fi romance flick, but it's actually a phenomenon that physicists say may someday lead to the ability to teleport an object all the way across the galaxy instantly.

It's not exactly the Star Trek version of teleportation, where an object disappears then reappears somewhere else. Rather, it "entangles" two different atoms so that one atom inherits the properties of another.

"According to the quantum theory, everything vibrates," theoretical physicist Michio Kaku tells NPR's Guy Raz. Kaku is a frequent guest on the Science and Discovery channels. "When two electrons are placed close together, they vibrate in unison. When you separate them, that's when all the fireworks start."

This is where quantum entanglement — sometimes described as "teleportation" — begins. "An invisible umbilical cord emerges connecting these two electrons. And you can separate them by as much as a galaxy if you want. Then, if you vibrate one of them, somehow on the other end of the galaxy the other electron knows that its partner is being jiggled."

This process happens even faster than the speed of light, physicists say.

Quantum entanglement isn't a new idea — Einstein once famously referred to it as "spooky action at a distance" — but it wasn't until the past 30 years that scientists were first able to observe this process.

It could one day lead to new types of computers, and some even think entanglement may explain things like telepathy. Scientists aren't quite ready to beam up Scotty yet, but this is the technology that one day may lead to such a feat.

Mirrors and lenses direct lasers at atoms to catalyze entanglement.

The work is being pioneered at places like the Joint Quantum Institute at the University of Maryland. In a basement lab, scientist Christopher Monroe has successfully managed to "entangle" two atoms approximately one meter away from each other.

"It's fun being on the fringe," Monroe says. "This discipline, we don't know where it's going. And that drives me every day."

But Monroe's work is a long way from being able to teleport a living being. The problem with such an act, Kaku says, is that "you have to be destroyed in order to have your body teleported to the other side of the room. So if you've been destroyed and teleported, then who is that person there? They have the same memory, the same jokes, the same everything, except the original was destroyed in the process of being teleported."

So if one was to be teleported, would he or she simply be re-created but not able to tell the difference? Stay tuned to the Joint Quantum Institute website to see if they ask for volunteers.

Fearing Sister-In-Law is a Witch, Man Chops Off Her Tongue

ptinews - Acting on the diktat of a community panchayat, a man chopped off the tongue of his sister-in-law on the suspicion that she was practising witchcraft in Kyorpur area, police said here.

Sahdeo chopped off the tongue of his sister-in-law Jageshwari on the diktat of the community panchayat in Karhaiya village yesterday, Superintendent of Police Pritinder Singh said.

Sahdeo's daughter Sonia (4), who was ailing for the last few months, died on Sunday. Some exorcists told Sahdeo that Jogeshwari was responsible for Sonia's death as her tongue was in grip of evil spirits, he said.

The exorcists threatened Sahdeo that if Jogeshwari's tongue was not chopped off his second daughter would also die.

Sahdeo later took the matter before the community panchayat, which held Jogeshwari guilty and ordered to chop off her tongue.

NOTE: I bet this guy's mother-in-law ran for the hills...Lon

Now You Think Something Funny Was Going On At Montauk Point? Where Were You Years Ago?

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 07:55 AM PDT

Chris Holly's Paranormal World - Have you noticed the new sudden interest in the Montauk Point area of Long Island New York ? It seems part of this new interest involves the old closed military base Camp Hero located in the Montauk Point area.

Personally this new found interest does one thing for me. It makes me want to walk to the end of my deck in my yard and scream in frustration.

I tried for years to get articles published concerning the activities that took place on the Hero Military base that was once open on Long Island and Plum Island a secret government lab that is now a dead zone area off of Long Island as well as a few other choice dangerous areas located in my neck of the woods.

I have been convinced for a very long time that many sightings, lost time events and abductions on Long Island as well as the coast of New England were all connected to or in part involved with those secret sinister locations on Long Island.

I suspected for a long time that many of the rural country folk living on the east end of Long Island have been used as lab rats by many unknown activities or experiments that routed from those locations on Long Island.

In many of my articles I have written about odd events that have happened on Long Island . I mentioned in those articles that I suspected humans were working in connection with Aliens based out of these deadly facilities.

Located sticking out into the Atlantic Ocean with quick and easy access to the open sea and sky miles away from large populations yet a few hours away from one of the biggest cities around Long Island was and is the perfect place to carry out sinister experiments and get away with it without any questions.

I was told years ago when Camp Hero was a working base that it was a dangerous place that was connected to the main town by long winding tunnels that were deep under ground . I know there is at least one building in the main area of town where the base is located that does have long winding tunnels without any explanation why they exist.

The infamous Plum Island is located close to Camp Hero. Plum Island is known worldwide for being an extremely dangerous place where top secret activities were conducted for years.

Now closed it is still thought of as a hell hole by local Long Islanders. The only way that island could be considered safe would be to burn it to the ground and blow what was left out into space. I doubt they will ever be able to truly consider that Island a place for humans or animals to work or live.

I know they have been trying to decontaminate it since 2000 in order to sell the place. Only a madman would consider having anything to do with it. Madmen were the ones who ran it and left it a slice of hell on earth.

So many paranormal, abductions, strange sightings and lost time events have taken place on Long Island that it is ridiculous to consider these dangerous places did not have something to do with at least some of them.

Who knows what or who was living in those underground quarters built deep underground at Camp Hero. Who knows what was going on at Plum Island.

Who knows what flew in and out of that area in the dead of night from the open Sea?

I do know that many of us who lived here during the hay day of these places saw crafts, strange beings or were taken and abused.

I blame those locations and the interaction of our own kind with beings that were not human. The poor people in the area were simply close at hand and easy to use. I know , I was one of them.

Long ago I wrote an article about the giant fire ball that flew across Long Island during the 1965 blackout on the east coast of the United States.

Not too much was said at the time of the blackout about the strange sighting of a huge fire ball that streaked across the sky that night. It was seen from Canada all the way down the East Coast of the United States.

I could not find reports of sightings of UFO's during the 65 blackout either. I did however receive many emails from people all over the world who lived on the east coast during the 1965 blackout telling me that they did see a strange craft or group of UFO's the night of the blackout.

I stopped counting the emails from those who saw the fire ball in the sky that night. The incredible thing is that all the people who wrote to me remarked how they could not understand why it was not reported at the time or why everyone was not talking about it.

I do not know what the answer is to any of these questions. I do not know why after years of talking about the odd events that have occurred on Long Island including those that took place on Montauk Point and the Hero Military base no one was interested until now.

Now over 40 years later a few people who do not live here and were not here at the time are making movies and writing books about all of these issues.

Now those who have no idea what has been going on here on Long Island suddenly pop up with a video camera and become famous over night for the same data we Islanders have tried to tell people for years.

The fickle behavior of the paranormal world can be maddening to those who have been trying to shed light on many of these issues for years.

The entire scenario is frustrating and confusing to those who lived it and tried to talk about it only to be ignored or laughed at.

What is it about society that makes them ignore or ridicule something unknown until it becomes the 'IN' thing to talk about and then they are all in to it. It seems to be especially appealing if it is being told to them by someone second hand who really has no idea what they are talking about.

I dropped in on a chat platform type internet group not long ago and listened to one of the new self proclaimed experts talk about Montauk Point and the Hero Military Base now long closed.

He was talking about things that were old news to the locals. He also was a bit off on his information. Curious to the reaction of the group of about 70 people listening to him I joined in the conversation by explaining I lived right there and have been to the Point and that base many times. Not one person reacted. No one had a question for a person living right smack in the area they were discussing. It was similar to being in a discussion with a group about the Amityville Horror House and informing the group you now lived in the Amityville Horror House yet being ignored by the group discussing the house!

I tried to join in on the conversation about Montauk and the odd activities of the area . I was ignored. I was insulted about four times but not one person considered asking a local of the Montauk area any questions.

I went as far as informing the group that some of the information being reported by the self appointed expert talking on the subject was simply incorrect. I was ignored.

I decided to see how determined this group was against anything that did not completely agree with the new experts opinions and asked the young man claiming to be the authority a few questions concerning the base and Montauk Point. He would not answer me. What the group did do was ask me to leave.

That is what is wrong with the paranormal and why so many things that should be understood , investigated or known stay polluted and lost in the confusion and ciaos known as the paranormal.

So much time has been wasted and so much has been kept in the shadows due to our own behavior concerning the unknown.

Until we grow up and stop acting like high school kids all wanting the attention of the cool kids we will remain locked in ignorance to what really happens out there in the world of paranormal activity and unknown science.

Maybe someday it will change. However I am on the verge of giving up hope it will in my life time.

Instead I watch those who are considered the cool kids attract the full attention of those wanting to be cool and watch those with the real scope left on the sidelines ignored and alone. It is really funny as they are the ones with all the information.

Until we stop asking people who are trying to clean up and advance the paranormal to leave the room in favor for those who have no idea what they are talking about the subjects of the unknown will remain in the dark and we will remain the dopes of the universe. Cool maybe, stupid definitely.

For now I simply shake my head in total bewilderment at my fellow humans actions and continue to wonder what drives them to want to remain in the dark about so many subjects we really should understand.

I will not stop looking for answers. I just know but for only a few others I am mostly on my own.

I think that as it stands in our society with the paranormal it is safe to say that Montauk Point and that old creepy military base have nothing to fear. I am sure their secrets will remain safe for a long time to come.
