I received the following update correspondence yesterday: Dear Lon In November last year we reported on, and supplied photographs of, a giant snake event in near the jungle city of Iquitos Peru. The photographs we commissioned showed a trail at least 5 meters wide and now we have located video evidence to support our photos and eye-witness accounts. The video is in Spanish but we have had our contact in the Amazon supply a full translation. This is clearly further evidence that the Black Boa, Yacumama, Sachamama and the Minhocao are one and the same animal. All contemporaneous description and photographic evidence points to this conclusion. Woman in orange- Yes, we supposed there was an animal here because we are living here for 4 years, but every time the animal moved we felt like the earth was moving. Presenter- Ah.. You say then that the earth felt like moving? Woman in orange- Yes, yes, we felt like the earth was moving. Presenter- Rain or no rain? Woman in orange- Yes, rain or no rain. Like an earthquake. Ground moved. Presenter- All these people were witnesses of an event like this without getting to see the animal for which we had a doubt of the possible existence of a boa who reaches up to 5 meters in width, doubt that took us to consult Pedro Perez, Biologist, specialist in ophidian and reptiles; and from a professional point of view answered the questions: Pedro Perez- ("Herpetologist") Firstly, it doesn't, it doesn't exist a reptile, and in this case, a boa of such magnitude of such width, there can exist a 7 meters boa but in length not in width. Well, normally this types of stories are related to… to… torrential rains that fall over determined types of soils, soft soils; where it can generate a… a… sliding of this types of soils. So this makes the idea that an animal of this magnitude has passed by, but in reality it is more related to… to… strong rains, types of soft soils, and sliding more than to an animal very wide that… that does not exist in the Amazonia. At the most there are, maybe, little rats, little frogs, but it is not going to be enough to maintain this, this enormous animal. And, and in some cases, it has been observed that big serpents, big boas can eat people but in very extreme cases where there are no food. If, in case, there could be an animal so big of that dimensions, then it would have been eating persons in that place. Photo credit: Big Bear Solar Observatorycosmomagazine - The upper reaches of Earth's atmosphere are unexpectedly shrinking and cooling due to lower ultraviolet radiation from the Sun, U.S. scientists said. The Sun's energy output dropped to unusually low levels from 2007 to 2009, a significantly long spell with virtually no sunspots or solar storms, according to scientists from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. During that period, the thermosphere, whose altitude ranges from about 90 to 500 kilometers, shrank and contracted from the sharp drop in ultraviolet radiation, said the study published in Geophysical Research Letters. Good news for satellites The thermosphere cooled by 41 degrees Celsius in 2008 compared to 1996, and shrank by 30%, "more than at any time in the 43-year era of space exploration" the researchers said. "Our work demonstrates that the solar cycle not only varies on the typical 11-year time scale, but also can vary from one solar minimum to another," said study lead author Stanley Solomon. A narrower, less dense thermosphere is good news for satellites orbiting Earth, including the International Space Station, since reduced friction means they can remain aloft longer, said University of Colorado professor and study co-author Thomas Woods. Sun mimicking 19th century activity "This is good news for those satellites that are actually operating, but it is also bad because of the thousands of non-operating objects (debris) remaining in space that could potentially have collisions with our working satellites," he added. Woods said the research shows the Sun could be going through a period of relatively low activity, as it did in the early 19th and 20th centuries. "If it is indeed similar to certain patterns in the past, then we expect to have low solar cycles for the next 10 to 30 years," he added. **********  Man Raises Concerns Over 'Serial Killer' Doll10tv - A man on Wednesday was raising concerns over one of the latest toy to be stocked on the shelves of Toys R Us. Jim Schultz is passionate about collecting things, from model trucks to more than 8,000 patches and badges, 10TV's Andy Hirsch reported. "I'm a geek," Schultz said. Last week, Schultz's hobby took him to Toys R Us where he said he was surprised to see a serial killer action figure. "As I'm weaving through the aisles I pass this toy and think, 'That that can't be,'" Schultz said. The "Dexter" action figure is modeled after the character from the TV show about a serial killer who kills other murderers, Hirsch reported. The action figure comes complete with a handsaw and bloody gloves. "I thought 'Oh my god! You've got this in Toys R Us? Are you kidding me?'" Schultz said. Schultz complained to Toys R Us. The company issued a statement that said in part, "A small number of the item was ordered to accommodate (the stores) avid action figure collector customers," Hirsch reported. Schultz said collectors can find the Dexter doll in a more appropriate store. "I've seen the Toys R Us commercials, I didn't see a 30-something-year-old guy dancing around with the kids and the giraffe," Schultz said. "There isn't a serial killer Ken. He doesn't come with a hack saw and a trash bag to put Barbie's head in." A Toys R Us spokesman said the Dexter figure has been on the shelf for a couple of weeks and that Schultz' complaint is the only one the company has received. He also said the packaging is labeled "Ages 18 and up" and "Not intended for children." "I understand it's marketed towards adults, but I do condemn Toys R Us for putting it on their shelves in the same store where you can go buy Barbie or Kermit or Elmo," Schultz said. The stores in the central Ohio area were each stocked with about eight dolls and once they are gone, they will not be restocked, Hirsch reported. The company's spokesman said Toys R Us is not the only retailer that carries the doll. **********  Saudi Couple Hammered 24 Nails Into Sri Lankan Maidguardian - A Saudi couple tortured their Sri Lankan maid by hammering 24 nails into her hands, legs and forehead, after she complained of a too heavy workload, officials said today. Nearly 2 million Sri Lankans sought employment overseas last year and around 1.4 million, mostly maids, were employed in the Middle East. Many have complained of physical abuse or harassment. LT Ariyawathi, a 49-year old mother of three, returned home on Friday after five months in Saudi Arabia. Her family only realised what had happened to her when she complained of pain and they took her to see the doctor, Foreign Employment Bureau officials said. "The landlord and the wife of the landlord hammered 24 nails into her when she complained of the heavy workload," Kalyana Priya Ramanayake, media secretary of the Foreign Employment Bureau, said. Ariyawathi has been taken to hospital for surgery to remove the nails, which according to the maid were hammered in when they were hot. X-rays showed one- to two-inch nails in her hands and legs, with one over her eyes, officials said. The Foreign Employment Bureau is consulting the attorney-general while the Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry is to take the matter up with the Saudi government, officials said. Click for video ********** Cuba Ends Cigarette Subsidies Cuba's elderly will no longer be entitled to state-subsidised cigarettes, the government has said. All Cubans 55 or older are allocated four packs of cigarettes a month for about 25% the normal price, but this privilege is being ended in September. The measure is President Raul Castro's latest attempt to cut the communist state's spending. The island has been hit hard by the global economic downturn and the long-term US trade embargo. A statement in the government-run Granma newspaper said the move was "part of the steps gradually being applied to eliminate subsidies". The health benefits were not mentioned. Cigarettes "are not a primary necessity," it said. "I'm insulted because it's another thing they are taking away from us," said Angela Jimenez, a 64-year-old who receives a monthly pension of about $10 (£6.50). She said she will now have to quit smoking because she won't be able to afford the normal price of about $0.33 a pack. Cigarettes are the latest item to be removed from ration books. Subsidised peas and potatoes were eliminated in November. ********** Weird Torture Case in Canada thestar - Calgary police say they are investigating whether the suspect arrested in a gruesome torture case that spans two Prairie provinces may have other alleged victims. Det. Doug Crippen said Thursday that other individuals have come forward, and he confirmed that there are currently "parallel investigations" looking into the actions of Dustin Paxton. "I can't get into the specifics of other parallel investigations. As we receive the information, we are following up the information aggressively to ensure that anybody who has encountered a crime is afforded the opportunity to have a bias-free investigation," Crippen said at an afternoon news conference. "At this point we are speaking with other individuals and we are encouraging if there are any other individuals who need to report a criminal act with regard to this matter that they come forward." Police say the 30-year-old Paxton had been living under an assumed name in Edmonton for the past four months before being taken into custody in that city late Tuesday. He faces charges that include aggravated assault and forcible confinement relating to his former roommate, Dustin LaFortune. The charges deal with crimes that are alleged to have occurred in both Calgary and Regina. LaFortune was starved, burned and had parts of his tongue and lips cut off before being dumped at a hospital in Regina earlier this year. "This case was in particular the worst investigation that I have entered into in my time as a police officer with the Calgary Police Service," said Crippen, who travelled to Edmonton to interview Paxton. "I can't speculate on why this particular individual did what he is alleged to have done." Police in Regina and Calgary issued warrants for Paxton on Monday — more than four months after LaFortune was dumped at the hospital. The 26-year-old weighed just 87 pounds, down from his usual weight of 245, when he was left there on April 16. His family has said that in addition to extensive physical injuries, he suffered brain trauma and amnesia. LaFortune was reported missing in Calgary on April 12. His family said he moved to Calgary from Winnipeg two years ago to work for a moving company and they lost contact with him in February. Details about what might have happened during that time began to emerge after LaFortune was dumped at the hospital. A landlord at a Regina apartment building said he rented a suite to LaFortune in mid-March and a man living below that suite said he regularly heard disturbing sounds coming from there. Officers raided the apartment as part of their probe. Word of the arrest was also welcomed by LaFortune's family and more than 48,000 supporters on a Facebook page dedicated to the case. While police only recently publicly fingered Paxton as their suspect, LaFortune's family has been pointing to him for months, using the Internet to make its case. His mother, Renee LaFortune, thanked police and said: "Dustin is safe at last" and referred to Crippen as "a hero." "So good to see the prompt arrest after the long-awaited arrest warrant," wrote another woman. Paxton is to make his first court appearance in Calgary Aug. 27. Regina police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said the case has drawn a lot of attention. "We now have the start of the judicial process ahead of us and that's a good thing. It helps bring some resolution to the victim and the victim's family," said Popowich. "I spoke with one of our investigators this morning and he said that the family is obviously quite relieved and ... had learned also from the family of the victim, that the victim himself is quite relieved to hear the news." Investigators have said that there were challenges in the investigation, including that LaFortune initially couldn't give officers a statement because of his condition. Microphones captured the sound on Friday, August 13, after psychic medium Debbie Malone guided the film crew to an upstairs room, Unreel Productions' Rob Kerr said. "We were up in a room where Debbie said there was the spirit of a young girl," he said. "We picked up what sounded like a young girl making some noise." "We set up a few target objects in the smaller rooms, like a teddy bear and balloons. If we see any of those move by themselves, it will indicate paranormal activity." Lon ********** Originally posted 1/7/10 Workers at Haunted Mansion Discover Hangman's Noose  Studley Park House's reputation for being haunted has deepened after workmen responsible for repairing the old house made a disturbing discovery. The men have been busy replacing parts of the iron roof and repairing the slate to make the 120-year-old Victorian mansion watertight. But it's the interior that has had them buzzing after they stumbled on a hangman's noose dangling from the home's steeple roof. Studley Park House the centrepiece of Camden Golf Course has long been regarded as one of Camden's most haunted abodes. The haunting theories were spawned by several tragic incidents that occurred on the site like the drowning of a 14-year-old boy in the property's dam in 1909 and the death in 1939 of the son of then-owner Arthur Gregory, a sales manager for Twentieth Century Fox Australia. Mr Gregory's son reportedly died in the home's theatrette from appendicitis. Rod Nash, director of Affordable Roofing, the company repairing the roof, said he had no doubt the house was haunted. Despite uncovering the hangman's noose, Mr Nash said he was keen to visit the house at night. Studley Park House was built by Narellan grazier William Payne in 1889 for his bride but after running into debt he sold it to an architect. The grand home changed owners several times over the years and has been used as a private residence, as Camden Grammar School and for army training during World War II. Camden Historical Society's Ray Herbert researched Studley Park's long and interesting history. ``I've been in the house at all hours of the day and night and I haven't seen a ghost,'' he said. The same can't be said for the four contestants who spent time isolated in the dormitory, cellar, theatre and tower for the 2001 filming of Scream Test, a psychological reality game show. The brave participants were locked in the house as cameras filmed their feelings, thoughts and any paranormal occurrences. One of the contestants, who reported hearing voices, was too spooked to continue the challenge and another said he'd heard a baby crying from a corner of the room. ``Kids have said they've walked past the house and seen a lady looking out the window,'' Mr Herbert said. ``Someone once reported seeing the lights on in a part of the house where there were no lights. Another time when the fire brigade was called to investigate a report of lights being on, they checked the mains and found they were switched off.'' ______________________ THE HISTORY OF STUDLEY PARK HOUSE  In October 1888, grazier and businessman William Charles Payne bought land near Camden in an area called Narellan in southwest Sydney. He named his newly acquired property "Studley Park", after the original Studley Park located in Yorkshire, England. In 1889, construction of a grand Victorian mansion began. Designed by A. L. & G. McCredie, a prosperous architectural and engineering firm, it became known as "Payne's Folley".Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, Payne was forced to sell the house to pay off his debt to the house's architect, a man named Francis Buckle. Buckle used Studley Park House as a weekend retreat until it was sold to Dr Henry Oliver, the headmaster of The Camden Grammar School in 1902. The school had originally been located at St Helen's Park House in Campbelltown. On October 15, 1909, fourteen year old student Ray Blackstone and 5 of his fellow boarders decided to go for a swim in a nearby damn. Despite being told time and time again about the dangers of swimming in the dam, the boys ignored the warning. During an attempt to swim to one side of the damn and back, Ray began to struggle. Despite the assistance of his friend, Sydney Langford, the boy drowned. His lifeless body was brought ashore by senior students and it is reputed to have been stored in the cold, dark cellar of Studley Park House, awaiting burial. The school was sold in 1919 to Reverend Charles Herbert Palmer and continued to operate until 1933 when it was packed up and moved to the home of Parliamentary Member for Sydney, William Bede Dalley, in Manly. Studley Park was sold to Arthur Adolphus Gregory, sales manager of Twentieth Century Fox Australia. Gregory furbished Studley Park House in Art Deco style and converted the student's dining room into a theatrette. A keen golfer, he had a nine hole course designed for the land surrounding the house. A further nine holes were later added and the original stables block/classroom was converted into the golf club. In 1939, tragedy struck when Gregory's son died in the theatrette from appendicitis. When World War II began the property was taken over by the Department of Defence and became The Eastern Command Training School. Accommodation was increased to house the 280 staff and students attending the school's courses. Lieutenant A. R. Cutler, a future Governor of New South Wales, was one of the first students to graduate. In 1951 the first intake of the Women's Royal Australian Army Corps began their training at Studley Park. The hosts of the show Steve and Alex were talking about different odd creatures being reported around the world. At the very end of the show Steve told me he had an odd experience with a strange creature on a Bridge. The show ended before I could find out exactly what happened to Steve. My curiosity got the better of me and I called Steve to find out what he had seen while crossing a bridge in Canada. First let me say that I have known Steve for a while now and have done a few shows with him. I have talked with him long enough to know he is a bright, logical man who looks at the subjects of the paranormal with an eye for understanding not fantasy. Steve is a level headed guy which is why I found his experience intriguing. Steve told me that during the year 2002 he was working a night shift job that had different shift hours during the week. Steve is also a hiker who takes advantage of every opportunity to be out in the world walking. During his work weeks he would have nights where his shift ended about 2:00 a.m. Steve would use these work shifts as a chance to walk home late at night when the world was asleep and the night his to enjoy. During one of these star bright lovely nights Steve's shift ended and Steve started his hour plus walk home. He listened to his music, enjoyed the beautiful clear quiet night and started his journey home. Steve's route took him across a river located near Mississauga in Ontario Canada. One night Steve set out for his long walk home after finishing his shift that ended at 2 in the morning which took him straight over the river. The river had a two lane bridge over it that Steve walked across on his trek home. The bridge had a grassy knoll down the middle of it that separated the lanes of the bridge. Steve was starting his way across the bridge when he noticed something ahead of him in the dark. He clearly saw some kind of large animal run from one side of the bridge into the middle of the grassy knoll. Steve stopped dead in his tracks and instinctively did not move at the sight of something in front of him that he could not identify. Steve stood motionless as he looked at the large silhouette in front of him. At this point the only thing he could distinguish was that the thing was very large. Steve stood perfectly still trying to see what stood about 30 feet in front of him in the dark. As he stood there peering into the night the thing in front of him began to rise from its four legged stance until it stood straight up as a human does on two legs. The thing before him was large, at least 6 feet 5 inches when standing fully erect on two legs. It did not take the stance of a bear or any other animal Steve had ever seen. It looked almost human when standing fully up and still. Steve could make out the semi human form of this thing as they stood there in the night peering into the dark at each other. Steve did not move. The thing did not move either. They stood still for what seemed a very long time to Steve but was only a minute or so. There alone on the bridge Steve stood with this thing peering back at him in the night watching and waiting to see what the other would do next. Steve could not make out if it had fur or hair or any features on this creatures head. The night would only silhouette the creature by way of the natural light that the stars gave off. It was Canada, near a wooded area over a very dark river in the middle of the night. Only Steve and this thing were to be found out at this time of night. All Steve could see was the dark strange shape of something he had never seen before. Finally the thing dropped down to all fours without a sound and took off to continue on its way across the grassy knoll to the wooded area across the other side of the bridge. Steve watched as this large creature continued on its way running in form somewhat like a dog would run. It ran into the woods back into the night. Steve stood there motionless for a few moments waiting and listening to see if the thing left the bridge area. He could not see it or hear any movement and carefully continued on his way across the bridge and away from this strange encounter. Steve felt he was being watched as he made his way as quickly as possible over that bridge and away from the area. Steve had no idea what he had just seen. He knew there were no bears in the area. The animal was far too large to be a dog or cat type of animal. He did not know of any animal that size that was able to stand erect like a human yet drop to all fours and run like an animal. Steve was also haunted by how this thing looked when it stood up on two legs. Its body was proportioned more like a human form than an animal form. The thing did not have shorter thin looking legs with a longer body like a deer. The thing did not have the silhouette of a bear. It was far too big and looked nothing like a large dog or cat. Steve knew he has just seen an unknown creature and felt shaken to his core. Steve has never forgotten this encounter. He has considered over the years trying to form an investigative team to find out what exactly it is that may be living in the woods in that part of Ontario Canada. Steve also would like to know if anyone else has ever had an encounter with a creature that fit the description of the thing he saw on the bridge that night. I have been receiving more reports than usual lately of strange creatures over the last year. I am presently trying to talk with a woman who sent me an image she drew for a group of people near where she lives. The people claim they are seeing a strange large creature in their pastures. The report comes from those living in middle America who are seeing a large vicious terrifying beast in cow pastures stalking the animals. They refer to this creature as the 'cow pasture monster'. I am trying to find out more about these sightings however to date find the people involved reluctant to discuss it. It appears to be obvious that we are seeing many things that can only be categorized as unexplained not to mention very strange. I know I often tell my readers to be careful out there as well as paying attention to their surroundings. I think now more than ever it is especially important to be alert and aware that there are many unknowns out there and it is only a matter of time we may all find we are the ones looking into the eyes of something we do not understand.
