What was the Beast of Seven Chutes?

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 04:43 PM PDT

On June 1, 2005, a photo was taken of an unidentified species standing beside a waterfall in the Parc des Sept Chutes in Quebec, Canada. Amazingly, the creature appears to be holding something and is staring at the photographer, who doesn't notice it. This creature does not match the typical descriptions of the legendary Bigfoot, which is usually described a being a massive creature that resembles a human, having a conical head and a human-looking flat face. As well, the Bigfoot is not usually described as being aggressive.

The creature in the photo has several unique physical attributes that differentiates it from typical Bigfoot sightings. The creature is erect, standing on two legs and appears to be between 5-6 feet tall. It has an elongated snout that appears dog-like as well as silver hair on its head reaching to it's shoulders. The creature's body is black and the left arm is visible bent at the elbow. Quite remarkably, the creature looks to be holding a white dog.

Based on the red area that looks like blood on the creatures head, it may have been feeding on the dog. The creature has a triangular shaped head and, unlike most Bigfoot who retreat when seen, this creature is holding his ground and staring aggressively and directly at the photographer.

In August 2008, David Claerr wrote an article comparing the Beast of Seven Chutes and Dogman of Michigan:

In the forests of Northern Wisconsin, Michigan and East Central Canada, between about 42 to 48 degrees of Latitude, there have been a resurgence of reports of a large, bipedal carnivore, within the past several years. There is a notable resemblance in the descriptions to a being in the lore of native tribes: the Windigo, a tall, ferocious creature with a wolf-like head on the body of a man or bear. It also fits the descriptions from European legends of the werewolf.

The cryptic creature is reported to have unique characteristics that differ from the appearance of a Sasquatch or Bigfoot. Generally smaller and less stocky than a Sasquatch, it is said to be closer to the height of an average man, and the arms and legs are similar in proportion to the human. The hands or fore-paws are said to have long curving, sharp claws. The feet, judged by footprints, are said to be elongated somewhat like the human, but the toes are shorter and configured more like a canine. But the most striking feature, according to the accounts, is the elongated muzzle with large protruding canines and pointed incisors.

Accounts of sightings of the creature are often in conjunction with a fresh kill, usually a deer. Its demeanor is hostile and aggressive, according to reports. The non-human expression is said to be malevolent, and the glaring eyes and snarling grimace are said to provoke a deep sense of dread. The accompanying illustrations by the author are based on purported eyewitness accounts and a detail from a photo taken in a park near, Quebec Canada. "Seven Chutes" refers to the cataracts or waterfalls in the park, which is known by the the French name "Parc de Sept Chutes". In a small area of the larger, complete picture of a waterfall, a strange figure is facing the camera and looking up through the foliage on the embankment. Amazingly, it appears to be cradling a white poodle in its arms.

The hand-drawn digital illustrations by the author were derived by a visual study of an enlarged detail of the figure. Sophisticated filtering effects were employed to isolate color groups and enhance details of the structure and textural patterns. A compensation for motion-blur was added. The resulting rectified image, which revealed surprising detail, was used as a visual comparison for the illustrations. (To see the original unaltered picture and more information, refer to the link in the Resources section below.)

The crown of the creature's head has an irregular red coloration that has the appearance of a stain, perhaps blood. The rest of the hair or fur, which follows coherent patterns, is in shades of grey to white, darker at the base and lighter toward the tips. The head has a moderately long mane that appears to obscure the ears. The coat of hair on the arms, legs and body is somewhat uniform and comprised of stiff bristles about an inch and a half long, judging from proportions. The lower legs and feet in the image are obscured, so the illustrated configuration of them is conjectural. The "dog" it appears to hold is less distinct since it has more of a motion-blur, but still looks more like a dog than any other object or animal.

From studying the apparent bone structure, musculature, posture and hair-growth patterns it is a reasonable hypothesis that the creature, if real, would have characteristics most in common with the primate branch that includes macaques and baboons. Since the environment in the reports is the colder mid-northern regions, an analogous primate could be the Snow Monkeys (macaques) of Japan, which have a seasonal growth of hair that allows them to survive temperature extremes. Related primates, like baboons, also have enormous canine teeth and a head that can appear very dog- or wolf-like. The hind legs and feet of a baboon are also somewhat dog-like in appearance and function. These conjectures are worth considering if a bipedal, primarily carnivorous primate is postulated. Of course, most primates are omnivores or herbivores, but that does not preclude the possible existence of a carnivorous primate. An analogy to that premise would be the carnivorous marsupial "wolves" and "lions" formerly inhabiting Tasmania.

Reports of this type of cryptic biped in the Americas go back centuries before the arrival of Europeans. There have been sporadic reports since the days of New World settlements of this and perhaps related creatures by well known explorers and historical figures. Whether the phenomenon is real or imaginary, a greater understanding of this and other mysteries can be gained only through scientific investigation and comprehensive field research.

The person who took the photo lives in Quebec, about 15 minutes from where the photo was taken. He speaks French and works as a driver for a construction company and wishes to remain anonymous.

He was sightseeing alone at the Parc des Sept Chutes which is near Saint-Georges de Beauce, Quebec, it was about 90 degrees that day. He did not notice the subject or anything out of the ordinary while he was walking around the park taking pictures. The date was Wed. June 1st 2005 there were no other park visitors around. He took 76 photos (all at medium resolution) of various park features, he also recorded 4 videos. (The videos are available for anyone who wants to view them.) The camera was a Canon A70. He was looking through the photos at home that same day and was surprised to see the subject/creature standing in the woods looking up at him. The photo was number 32 in the set. He has since been back to this area 3 times and taken photos and videos on each occasion. He was back on Monday July 4th and was spooked when he heard something walking in the woods 20-30 feet away from him. He stated that he probably will not be going back there alone. In some of the later photos he took he had his girlfriend stand where the subject was and he stood where he initially was and took photos to get a sense of size and scale. - haveyouseenthiscreature.com

NOTE: was this a small Bigfoot or a large baboon? Any other thoughts on the identity? Or was this simply a hoax? Lon

Just the Facts? - Loch Ness UFO, Grease Devils and BioArt Horse Plasma Injections

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 08:42 PM PDT

Falling Loch Ness UFO

The emergency services undertook a night-time search of Loch Ness after reports a balloon-like object had fallen from the sky.

The police, coastguard, lifeboat and an RAF search and rescue helicopter scoured the area but found nothing.

The alarm was raised at 20:00 on Saturday after members of the public said they saw a blue object fall on the south of the Loch, near Dores.

Police thought it might have been a hang glider or microlight.

However, following a three-hour search the emergency services could find "nothing untoward".

Loch Ness RNLI crew member, Vivian Bailey, said: "Speed of arrival on scene was essential and we were able to link our search efforts with those of the Coastguard and RAF, something we practise regularly.

"We believe the reports were based on sightings causing genuine concern and we commend the actions of the members of the public that contacted the emergency services." - BBC

'Grease Devil' riots in Sri Lanka

Angry Sri Lankans killed a police officer in the latest outbreak of violence sparked by a fear of nocturnal prowlers known popularly as "grease devils" that has gripped rural areas in the island nation over the past two weeks.

Another officer and five other people were hurt in two separate incidents in the north-western town of Puttalam after residents gave chase to a suspected grease devil, police and witnesses said.

Traditionally, a grease devil was a thief who wore only underwear and covered his body in grease to make himself hard to grab, but the modern iteration has a far more sinister reputation as a prowling attacker of women.

Five people have died in outbreaks of violence related to the grease devil panic so far, including Sunday's incident.

More than 30 incidents of violence and vigilantism have been reported in eight districts of the country, primarily in areas inhabited by minority Muslim or Tamil people as the government and opposition trade blame over the phenomenon.

"Some people had attacked a policeman on traffic duty in Puttalam town and he died after being admitted to the hospital," police spokesman Prashantha Jayakody said.

Mr Jayakody said that in a separate incident in Puttalam, people assaulted a police constable who went to the village. He declined to say what prompted the attacks.

Residents said people had spotted an unidentified man and given chase, but policemen on duty fired in the air and later toward the crowd.

"At least five people were injured including a 13-year-old child," said an area resident by phone, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of angering the authorities.

The government has said grease devils are merely criminals taking advantage of traditional beliefs in spirits and devils in Sri Lanka's rural areas, and have vowed to punish those responsible for spreading panic about them.

On Saturday, in the nearby town of Kalpitiya, a government hospital refused treatment to a suspected grease devil who was brought by the navy after area residents attacked him.

Hospital officials were angry at damage caused to the building after residents and navy sailors who kept the man from being lynched got into a fight, local media reported. - abc.net.au

Woman injects herself with horse blood, wears hooves

Marion Laval-Jeantet has injected herself with horse blood plasma as part of an artistic project exploring trans-species relationships.

Laval-Jeantet and her creative partner Benoit Mangin (working as collective Art Orienté Objet) were keen to explore the blurring of boundaries between species in the piece, entitled May the Horse Live in Me. Laval-Jeantet prepared her body to accept the horse blood plasma by getting injected with different horse immuniglobulins over the course of several months.

These foreign animal antibodies were injected in progressively larger amounts to allow her to build up tolerance in a process that she referred to as "mithridatisation", after the Persian king of Pontus, Mithridates VI, who supposedly built up an immunity to poison by regularly consuming small doses of it.

Earlier this year, after months of preparation, she was injected with horse blood plasma, which contained the full spectrum of immunoglobulins without provoking an allergic reaction.

As part of the performance piece she also wore a set of stilts with hooves on the end to feel at one with the horse. She also walked around with donor horse in a "communication ritual" before having her hybrid blood extracted and freeze-dried.

She explained to Centre Press that whole process made her feel "hyper-powerful, hyper-sensitive and hyper-nervous". She added: "I had a feeling of being superhuman. I was not normal in my body. I had all of the emotions of a herbivore. I couldn't sleep and I felt a little bit like a horse."

Art Orienté Objet have a long history of working in the bioart space, having created other pieces including Skin Culture, which uses bioengineered skin as a canvas for animal-shaped tattoos. - wired

Eastern Russia declares war on sharks

Following two recent incidents of shark attacks in the Russian Far East, the authorities in Primorye have come up with a straightforward solution and announced that local sharks will be dealt with by professional fishermen.

"We are planning to take out a number of fishing boats to catch sharks in the near future," governor Sergey Darkin said today in a video address, Itar-Tass reports.

He also called upon locals and visitors to refrain from swimming in the sea along the entire coastline of the region, particularly stressing the danger of deeper waters.

According to the governor, a special operation group has been made up of local authorities, scientists, emergency response specialists and members of law-enforcement services.

Police boats and teams of the Emergencies Ministry are currently patrolling the coastline. No new cases of shark attacks have been reported so far.

The beaches along Russia's Pacific coast are full of people this August, but those willing to go into water are few, despite the heat. Those who dare, remain in shallow waters.

Patrol boats are cruising along the coastline outside Vladivostok – Russia's main city in the region – to warn people of potential danger. To add to the mood of anxiety, local authorities have reported a shoal of large sharks near the island of Russky, just a few kilometers from Vladivostok.

The first attack occurred on Wednesday about 50 meters off the coast in Telyakovsky Bay in southern Primorye, when a 25-year-old man lost both his forearms after being mauled by what is thought to be a four-meter-long Great White shark.

He was immediately taken to a hospital in the village of Slavyanka in a serious condition and underwent surgery. According to his doctors, the man's life is not in danger and he will soon be transferred to Vladivostok for further treatment.

The second attack took place less than 24 hours after the first one. This time, a 16-year-old sustained serious injuries to his leg while diving for scallops. His wetsuit is thought to have saved him from more serious injuries.

The boy was hospitalized in Vladivostok and his life in not in danger. The medical staff say they will probably be able to save his leg. - RT

Amityville Horror: Filming Location For Sale / Lutz Survivor Breaking Silence

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 09:07 PM PDT

Those who were fans of 1979 shocker, "The Amityville Horror" can now get pretty close to the cultural phenomena: by owning the New Jersey house where the movie was filmed. That is, if they have a couple million lying around.

The NBC "Today" show recently interviewed the owners of the home, who are putting it up for sale. No, spooks haven't chased them out. In fact, they describe it as a nice center-Colonial with a waterfront view, rather than an otherworldly portal with a gateway to hell in the basement. The home was the filming location for "The Amityville Horror," and the owners describe it as a nice four-bedroom, with a pool. Asking price: just more than $1.3 million.

"It is not haunted," said owner Odalys Fragoso, who also said she regularly has been asked about seeing flies or hearing voices imploring her to "Get out!" She also showed the "Today" crew how she has a home-theater in the basement, where the host was treated to a showing of the 1979 original.

It's important to consider that the home in New Jersey is merely the Hollywood set for the 1979 film. The actual home exists, in – yes – Amityville, N.Y. If the past few owners of that home have been any indication, the only thing haunting the Amityville house has been curiosity-seekers, be it ones who merely drive by to those who go so far as to ring the doorbell.

The saga of the Amityville Horror is long and storied. In 1975 George and Kathleen Lutz moved into the Long-Island home with their children. Within a month they fled, claiming the home was haunted and that evil forces pushed them out. Their story became the basis of the 1977 Jay Anson book, "The Amityville Horror," published with the declaration, "A True Story" in the title. Based on the book's striking success, it was made into the 1979 film, starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder. The Lutzes' claims immediately inspired controversy, with many researchers pointing out inconsistencies in their account of their time in the house. Perhaps the biggest blow came when attorney William Weber went on record – giving subsequent interviews – that he and the Lutzes' concocted the haunting story one evening over many bottles of wine. The Lutzes strenuously objected, going so far as to sue Weber. But, the silver-tongued lawyer stood by his account of events.

Weber's involvement with the Lutzes stemmed from his job as the attorney for Ronald DeFeo, Jr., who lived in the house with his parents and siblings in 1974. DeFeo, Jr., was convicted of shooting to death his mother, father, two brothers and two sisters. Currently serving a life sentence, DeFeo, Jr., was described by associates as a deeply troubled young man, so much so that news of his heinous crime did not shock them or even seem out of character. Weber went for an insanity defense, and reportedly collaborated with the Lutzes because their claims would call the murders further into doubt. Weber and the Lutzes supposedly were inspired to their wild tale be the recent success of the 1973 film "The Exorcist," which is among the most successful movies ever made.

Enthusiasts of the Amityville Horror story (which has spawned several books and movies, including a poorly received 2005 remake), have often pointed to the most bizarre aspect of the DeFeo, Jr., case: That all the victims of the murder were shot lying face-down in their beds, with no signs of sedatives in their systems. Investigators find that bit of evidence incongruous, given how strikingly loud the shotgun report would have echoed throughout the house. - onlinenewswebsite

Amityville haunting survivor breaking his silence on 'The Amityville Horror'

Amityville haunting survivor Christopher Quaratino aka Christopher Lutz is one of the three children of George and Kathy Lutz. Christopher is breaking his silence taking issue with the facts regarding his fateful 28 days in what became known as "The Amityville Horror."

Now 43 years old, Christopher has read that two new Amityville films will be released in 2012 by major film companies and wants to set the record straight...TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.

Christopher, who maintains the haunting was real, yet very different from how it has been portrayed to the public, had this to say in response to the new film announcements, "They want to reinvent the story' A whole new generation won't know what really happened' Just as all those that don't know, who have followed this story for the last 35 years. The time has come for me to set the record straight, a fresh look from an alternative perspective, through the eyes of one of the children who peered out from those iconic quarter round windows. An eyewitness to the actual events that occurred in the Amityville house and what followed."

In a rare comment from any of the Lutz children, Christopher at the time the 2005 Amityville Horror remake released in theaters said, "George Lutz, brought the troubles on himself (and our family) by dabbling in the occult, it wasn't just the House that was the problem. That's why it followed us."

Christopher concluded by throwing down this challenge to the film makers "I SAY THIS, at what you do, you are good, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO "AMITYVILLE" and what happened after.... "I CAN TELL A CREEPIER STORY THAN YOU!" I'm calling a contest and the pubilc shall be the Judge.

Jason Blum, the producer of the movie "Paranormal Activity" is the producer of one of the new movies christopher is competing against. - film-news.co.uk
