Bigfoot Sightings Continue in Fayette County, PA

Posted: 15 Mar 2010 01:54 PM PDT

heraldstandard - Is it the power of the pen, the power of suggestion or the promise of anonymity that produced the latest rash of reports of Bigfoot sightings in Fayette County?

An article about a Bigfoot sighting north of Uniontown by a woman who wished to remain anonymous was published in August. Her account was investigated by members of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society and researcher Stan Gordon of Greensburg, perhaps best known for his investigation into an alleged 1965 UFO crash in Kecksburg in Westmoreland County.

Following the publication of the article, Eric Altman, director of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society, reports that he has received phone calls about eight additional Bigfoot sightings in Fayette County, four of which were clustered around Dunbar.

"We also had a fifth second-hand report of a teen boy who is alleged to have seen a creature following him through the woods in the Dunbar area while he rode his quad," said Altman, 39, of Jeannette. "The boy is said to be so shook up by the incident that he doesn't want to be interviewed and was so frightened he won't go back to the area."

Altman claims that Fayette County seems to be quite an active area for Bigfoot sightings, based on the inordinate number of calls he has received over the past six months. Besides the Dunbar sightings, two have been reported in the Jumonville area, one in Confluence and one in Connellsville.

"Since the name of the witness in the newspaper account was kept confidential, I feel that people experiencing the same phenomena are now more comfortable and are coming forth to tell their stories," he said

When conducting his research, Altman first interviews the witness on the phone, claiming that, over the years, he has become quite adept at determining if they're telling the truth. After trying to get as much information as he can, he then sets up a face-to-face meeting, preferably at the location of the sighting.

"In a person-to-person meeting, I can read a lot from a witness' body language, eye contact and facial expressions," he said.

The latest sighting report came from Heath Landman of Dunbar, who said he doesn't mind revealing his identity and claims he and his son, Heath Nickolas Jr., 20, saw "something" crossing the road in front of them about 35 to 40 yards away as they were driving on Ferguson Road in Dunbar at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31.

"The creature was walking at a fast pace on two feet, stood about 6 feet 3 inches tall and had a cone-shaped head," said Landman. "It was moving at a good clip without running, got across the road in three steps, then headed up an embankment and into a thicket. The next thing I knew, I heard my son say, "My god, Dad, what was that?"

In a state of shock, Landman turned his car around, headed for home and called his three brothers on the phone. They, along with two nephews, later went with the Landmans to the site where the creature was spotted. After exploring the area, one brother found pieces of hair stuck on brier and a nephew took photos of footprints in the snow, which were shown to Altman during his subsequent investigation.

"The hair found at the site is now protected in a container," said Altman. "We have contacts across the country who can conduct lab tests to try to match the hair to that of known species. We can also do DNA tests on the sample."

Another incident took place on Sept. 23 in the mountains near Dunbar. A mother and daughter out for a drive stopped at a pipeline to take in the view and heard a rustling noise in the brush below. Thinking it might be a bear or a deer, they later saw that it was an upright creature, very muscular and tall, Altman recounted.

"They reported that the creature got to within 150 feet, and just walked away without looking at them or threatening them in any way," said Altman, who met with the witnesses the following morning. "While hiking around the vicinity of the sighting, we discovered a large 19-inch, foot-shaped impression in very hard ground and an area where the brush had been trampled underfoot." While investigating yet another sighting report in the Dunbar area, Altman discovered a deer kill that had been eaten away until only the head and hide remained, as well as a 3-by-10-foot lean-to type structure in the area.

One unusual sighting at the end of July involved a woman who claims to have spotted two creatures just outside Dunbar - one a smaller one eating on some blackberries and a much larger one estimated to be about 10 feet tall. "There have been several reports of multiple sightings in other parts of the state," said Altman. "Many claim that the creatures have large dark eyes and range in size from 7 to 10 feet, are muscular and bulky and have a variety of hair color."

With the recent snowfall, Altman is hoping that people in the area come across unusual or revelatory footprints. Since the recent snowfall, members of the Bigfoot Society have gone back to sighting areas in search of footprints five or six times -- but have found no additional evidence.

"We encourage anyone who's experienced a Bigfoot sighting or who has information on the subject to phone us at 724-516-6344 or file a sighting report at www.pabigfootsociety.com," said Altman. "We keep the names and personal information of witnesses confidential and promise to take their reports seriously."

Motorist Has Near Collision With Bigfoot In Pennsylvania

A report of a possible Bigfoot encounter in Pennsylvania was received by the Sasquatch Watch of Virginia and was then referred to Eric Altman, the Director of the (PBS) Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society to investigate. The incident occurred on July 10, 2009, outside of Uniontown, in Fayette County.

On July 15, 2009, a team from the PBS traveled to the location where the reported Bigfoot encounter occurred to interview the witness and to look over the area for any possible physical evidence. The team was comprised of Eric Altman and PBS members Dave Dragosin and his wife Cindy. Eric also invited me to go along to participate in the investigation.

When we arrived on the scene, the witness and her husband were awaiting us. We went through our introductions, then walked over towards the roadway where the encounter had occurred. The location of the incident was on a two lane roadway outside of Uniontown.

It was about 6 P.M. when the event occurred, and the weather was warm and clear at the time. The witness was driving down the road about 35-40 mph, when suddenly, she caught out of the corner of her eye, a figure coming from the left side and approaching her. Her first thought was that a person was about to walk out in front of her car, and she was about to hit the subject.

She suddenly swerved over to the right side of the road, and was thankful that nobody was there. As she was making the turn, she got a good look at the figure, and suddenly realized that it was not a person, but a strange creature. As she sat there for a moment, she looked into her rear view mirror, and realized that the creature had gotten behind her car. "I looked into the rear view mirror and I saw it leap across my trunk."

While still pulled over on the roadside, the woman remained seated in her car, trying to regain her composure. She could not believe what had just occurred. Seconds later she looked up to see the creature now on her right side running quickly down the middle of another road about 75 feet away. That was the last time she saw it. The entire incident had lasted just several seconds, but enough time for the witness to recall a detailed description of a creature which she was certain was not human, or a person in a costume.

What she saw in daylight and at very close range was a dark colored, hair covered man-like creature, which she estimated was, "at least 6 feet tall or slightly taller." The creature, which walked upright on two legs, had a head that was said to be large and elongated, and covered with hair that just looked wild.

The neck was somewhat hard to explain since it was covered in hair. The witness said that it appeared to be thin and long. "The neck looked strange because the head was big and the shoulders were wide." The face was mainly covered in hair, yet the area that was exposed appeared to be very white. There was hair coming out from all over the face, like that of a dog or a wolf. The nose was flat and dark, but was also mostly covered in hair. The mouth could not clearly be seen. The ears were not seen since they were covered with hair as well.

The eyes were it's most prominent feature that really caught the witnesses' attention. The eyes were at least twice the size of a human and circular in shape. The eyes were dark, possibly black in color, wide set, and "wild looking." There was "no iris, no whites." The witness thinks that is why the eyes looked so odd. The wild look and the fierceness of the eyes of the creature, scared the woman.

The creature was stocky and muscular in appearance. The chest area was described as thick and hairy. The shoulders were wide and rounded. The arms were very long, hanging down to the knees or beyond. The witness said the hair on the arms was long, like ape hair. The woman didn't recall seeing any muscles, however, it appeared as though it was muscular, and in good physical shape.

The witness had the impression that this creature was older in age. Very little detail was observed below the waist. There was no unusual sound or odor noted during the observation. The witness did have her windows up and air conditioner on.

At the scene, Dave Dragosin sketched an illustration of the creature under the direction of the eyewitness. Eric and the witness's husband searched a wooded area not far from the location of the encounter, but nothing of interest was found.

We also went over to examine the car. As I was looking over the car body, I noticed what appeared to be an unusual scratch mark on the trunk surface on the left side of the vehicle. I pointed it out to the others, as well as the woman and her husband. They had never seen this surface area damage before.

The affected area was about 6 inches from the left tail light to the first striation of the scratches. The scratched area was about 8.5 inches long and 2 inches wide. There were numerous vertical and horizontal very thin scratch lines that went into the paint surface. There is the possibility that this might be related to the creature's movements as it leaped across the trunk area from that side.

It was my impression that the witness was very sincere and competent. As she described to us what she had seen and experienced that night, it was evident that she was still emotionally upset by what had occurred. The witness told me that after the encounter, she drove down the road a short distance and parked her car. She sat there thinking about what had happened. She was trying to convince herself that this was a person, but realized that it couldn't have been.

These are her reasons why she feels it was not a human. (A) The rate of speed the figure came across into the path of her car, it didn't care that it was going to get hit. (B) The fast movement of the creature and the way it leaped over the trunk. She also had a good look at the creature and some facial features. The eyes of the creature frightened her.

When she arrived home she waited a little while before telling her family about what she had seen. She was initially met with some disbelief from her children. Her husband listened to her and believed that she had seen something. He told her she should call the police to see if anyone else had reported something similar. The witness said she was not calling the police, concerned that she would be ridiculed.

The direction that the creature was last observed moving towards would take it into a heavily wooded area in the direction of Jammonville. There has been a long history of Bigfoot sightings being reported for many years in this same general area of Fayette County.

Some Guests Loved Denver's Oldest Hotel....So, They Stayed

Posted: 15 Mar 2010 11:19 AM PDT

world360 - Of all the hotels in Denver, the Oxford is the oldest and the most haunted. Reports of spectral visitations have mediums, ghost hunters, and hoards of the curious flocking to this historic structure in search of evidence and experiences from the wild beyond. Some may find what they seek, (or at least believe they do), and others may not, but the truth is ghosts of the past fill this anachronistic wonder and they are all around. No special skills or equipment are ever necessary to visit with the spirits, just a pair of eyes and an open mind.

Built in 1891 by partners Adolph Zang, Philip Feldhauser, and William MyGatt, the Frank E. Edbrooke, (also designer of the Brown Palace), design withstood the test of time. When the hotel first opened, rooms cost only $1.00, ($2.00 with a bath), and guests easily made the short walk from Union Station just one-half block away. Later, an annex was added, the interior was remodeled and the Cruise Room Bar was built. After 1945 and the end of World War II, train travel declined and so did the fortunes of the Oxford. The entire neighborhood also declined and did not re-surge until the early 1980's. Today, the Oxford stands as not only a living museum of Western Art, but also a portal into the past.

As visitors walk through the archway entrance, a transformation takes place. It becomes almost impossible not to feel the movement of days gone by and the passage of 117 years of guests coming and going. Just as beautiful, antique clockwork marks the passage of time, 19th century architecture makes the time stand still. It is easy to imagine when a fire maintained in the lobby fireplace warmed and welcomed guests. The ornate iron, the handcrafted wood and the precise tile still evoke the sense of luxury that was status in the days of Robber Barons, gilded cages and the Victorian ethic. A fine collection of oil paintings decorates the walls, antique furniture fills the halls and rooms, and various other forms of art from sculptures to artifacts are scattered just about everywhere one looks. Indeed, a stay at the Oxford is almost like staying in a museum as much as it is staying in a fine hotel. When it comes to décor, the Oxford has no equal. In fact, a few guests loved it so much, they refused to leave.

Reports of ghost visitations in Room 320 are the most prominent. I do not know what goes on in there. I tried to book the room, but there is a waiting list. If I were a ghost and every living soul wanted to sleep in my room, I would cause some ruckus too. There are also reports of ghost visits in the Ladies Room downstairs, but, if you ask me, that might well just be the ghosts of some 19th century adolescents still working through teenage angst. During my entire visit, I did not encounter one, visible ghost, or at least I do not think so. Instead, the entire hotel is a ghost from the past and maintains the spirit of everyone who ever stayed there. You feel it in the lobby, you feel it in the rooms, and you feel it as you wander the halls. There is no escaping the lure of the Oxford.

Are there ghosts at the Oxford? The mediums believe so, especially after a visit to the Cruise Room, and, after all, what self respecting ghost would not want to stay in a hotel so nice? If I were a ghost, that's where I'd book my eternal stay. Yet, if you are still of this world and still seeking contact with the past, the Oxford is a good place to start. Maybe that's why so many people keep finding excuses to keep on haunting the place and making it Denver's Oldest and Most Haunted Hotel.

PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION: THE OXFORD HOTEL, DENVER, COLORADO

Enter Room 320 at your own risk!

Bridget Johnson blogged live during an investigation at the Oxford Hotel - 10/31/08

I'm blogging live tonight with the Colorado Paranormal Research and Investigations team from the site of what is reputed to be the most haunted room at Denver's Oxford Hotel. Check for updates beginning after 9 p.m., when we'll be set up and waiting for that darn guest who keeps ducking out on the room bill...

9:05 p.m. We're all getting ready for the watch! Room 320 is small, with an ornate little living room and the infamous bedroom in which a murder occurred way back when. More on that as our research team and history experts relate the story to the 10 guests assembled on the floor and the couch. "We have a good mix here," says a trio on the couch. "We have a total skeptic, a total believer, and somewhere in between."

* Intros have begun to a packed house, crammed in on cushions. Just introduced myself to the group. And historical expert is now telling the story of the Lizzie Borden murders and staying at the little ax-whacker's house.
* This room is known as the "murder room," he says. Historical expert Kevin Pharris, owner of Denver history tours, is now telling the story. Calls the Oxford the most haunted building in Denver. One of the guests, he notices, is clutching the hand of her date. He tells the group that if anyone needs a hug or chocolate, they've got both!
* Notes that the Oxford used to just be a men's hotel, dating back to 1891, and only had one ladies' room. It went out of business and fell into disrepair. It was fixed up and reopened. Things began happening, he says, after the renovation, not before.
* There's apparently a ghost in the hotel who watches women when they use the bathroom. Gnarly.
* However, there's also apparently a girl searching for her canary in the attic. The Oxford, by the way, isn't allowing the attic tours anymore. They don't want the reputation as the haunted hotel, apparently. Yeah, nobody has Google.
* Now they're talking about gruesome Market murder stories on the record in the, well, Rocky Mountain News! "They would have page after page of the most lurid details," Kevin says. Now we have page after page of Campaign 2008. Which is worse?
* Maggie of the paranormal research group is using a puck that throws out random words based off the ambient temperature while Kevin is telling stories of Denver's sensational past of prostitutes getting killed a la Jack the Ripper. And, of course, the sensational details that the Rocky delivered at the time!
* The schedule for tonight, by the way, is until midnight. In for the long haul! And yes, part of that will be in the dark.
* More of Denver's salacious history. One in three Denver hookers having an STD, men fooling around, men fooling around and getting robbed and murdered while they were fooling around.
* Back to Room 320, where we sit! There was a double murder in the original bed here. It's the only headboard in the hotel that has a poem carved into it. Kevin can't find proof of it in the papers, but says that doesn't necessary mean anything because Mayor Speer was totally corrupt and could pay to keep things covered up. Wife and a boyfriend caught by hubby. No historical evidence -- we don't know who they are.
* Most people checked into this room aren't told about the haunted history, and most of the time nothing happens. But when it does happen, it's always the same. Only men who are staying alone are affected. Kevin takes the group into the bedroom.
* It's happened to about 25-30 men. Man will be laying here on the bed, sleeping, waking to a ghost at the foot of the bed, cussing him out, telling him to get out because he was corrupting a wife. Apparently one male guest ran down in his boxers to the front desk. Kevin turns out the lights on the guests. Says another story is single men will also be awakened by bathroom light going on and off quickly. Feels bed depress on one side as guest feels someone lie down next to him.
* Maggie scans the spooky bedroom for baseline temperature readings, which will help in future comparisons:

* Now Maggie is talking to the group that's assembled in the living room again, getting ready to describe the equipment they use. First is a temperature reading device that sniffs out cold spots. Then a digital camera that allows for instant review of pictures. The gadget for the baseline temperature readings. Maggie notes that electromagnetic fields can often produce symptoms that make people think they're haunted, depending on their sensitivity. They use a K-2 meter to measure readings. Also has a Sony Handy cam with infrared; helps her see in the dark.
* The "paranormal puck" is described more in detail. It a laptop that a guy designed that incorporates temperature and EMF readings, etc., with the entire Websters dictionary. That and another paranormal reading device keeps spitting out the words Betty and Veronica. One of the guests just suggests that the ghost really like Archie.
* Maggie is now playing examples of EVP -- electronic voice phenomenon, voices picked up on recording when at other sites in the area. Some of the creepiest ones are from the Stanley Hotel. None of them, though, say "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." :)
* Now comes time to try to get EVP readings here in the room. Maggie lets the Halloween ghost watching crew here listen to the recordings, watch the puck, monitor temp, and wander the bedroom with the infrared camera. now the lights are out and Maggie is asking questions of the alleged ghost to see if yes or no questions are answered.
* The electronic voice generated thing keeps spitting out the words "remember" and "smell." Remember the smell??
* Earlier in the evening, the blog file that I'd started at the office became hopelessly corrupted -- you'll see on the first post that I had to start a new file. Now Maggie's computer has gone into capture mode without anyone touching the screen. She asks said alleged ghost if it's the one who's been messing with his our computers.
* The electronic voice generated thing keeps saying sorry. Sorry he offed his wife, or sorry he screwed with my blog??
* Some of the names it's coming up with are Larry, Seth and Maddie. I Google these with denver and oxford hotel just to see if any historical records come up. Nada. Maggie's efforts to coax any ghost to show itself are unsuccessful. One guy volunteers to go lay on the bed. Probably just tired of sitting on the floor in our cramped living room quarters.
* No scream from the bedroom, which is over my shoulder. My laptop screen is the only light, along with Maggie's laptop. She now demonstrates another tool that she doesn't especially trust with its lack of scientific proof, which scans radio frequencies really fast to search for words or sentences. Maggie opines that there's too much room for human error.
* Nothing much yet. Maggie asks the crowd if the tools she using are a "little too much hack." She notes that ghost hunting stuff "is up to your own interpretation and beliefs." She notes how the puck can be open to interpretation when the human mind is searching for patterns and trying to come up with answers.
* The lights are back. Whew. If it wasn't spooky, at least I was tempted to take a nap. Maggie says they'll analyze the video and voice recordings in the next few days and see if there's anything there. I also recorded the night on my digital recorder, just for kicks.
* No guaranteed ghosts, the guests are told...
* The guests are getting ready to leave, but Shawn with Denver History Tours is going to stick it out for the whole night. Stay tuned... I'm going to wrap up with Maggie after everyone leaves and get her impressions.
* The girl who was manning the infrared camera said that at one point the screen went hazy without touching the focus.
* Maggie says the evening went well, especially letting people know how paranormal investigations really go, but she's looking forward to reviewing the evidence.

THE MORNING AFTER

After we left the hotel, Maggie and Shawn both agreed that they didn't get any sense of a haunting in the room. I agreed that nothing gave me the heebie jeebies, even when the lights were out and the infamous darkened bedroom was over my shoulder. I listened to the recording I made of the lights-out session and heard nothing remarkable.

A friend e-mailed me this morning asking, "So? Did you come away with any changed views, one way or the other?" Hey, this is the opinion section, so here goes: Being a Catholic, I'm not closed to the idea of the paranormal. But like the Vatican needs a boatload of evidence before approving an exorcism, I go in a skeptic waiting to be shown the evidence. Now, some of the recordings Maggie played from other sites, like the Stanley Hotel, were pretty convincing. But nothing yet from the admittedly creepy Oxford.

NOTE: I received a comment from a reader about a year ago who had stayed at the Oxford Hotel a few days after participating in an investigation at the Stanley Hotel. Her brief stay at the Oxford Hotel was, by far, the most frightening night she had ever experienced. She claimed to have heard voices of children and had her leg grabbed twice...Lon

Supposed Alien Spacecraft Fragment Revealed By Russian Ufologists

Posted: 15 Mar 2010 06:47 PM PDT

perm.rfn - (Translated) - "UFOs exist. In any case, so claim Permian ufologists, which fell into the hands of an interesting artifact. Maybe even a piece of alien spacecraft.

Analysis showed a fragment consists almost entirely of pure tungsten. Only one percent took the rare impurity. The composition of the earth's nature is almost not found.

Wolfram has interesting properties at certain temperatures it becomes a superconductor - explains the head of the Russian UFO Stations (RUFORS) Nikolay Subbotin. - That is quite likely that if there was some kind of unidentified flying object, it could be any part of the motor installation. Well, this assumption is. "

Scientists, however, are full of doubt. According to them, out of pure tungsten nozzle makes missiles. However, until you can not explain one thing. Tungsten in the air very quickly oxidized to rust. But this fragment could not care less."

The Blackout of 1965 and the Fireball

Posted: 15 Mar 2010 09:54 AM PDT

Chris Holly's Paranormal World - I lived on Long Island New York in 1965. We had a huge blackout that year that covered about six other states and parts of Canada. It was in the fall in November. I was about 14 or so at the time.

I clearly recall sitting on the front steps of my house with my friend, who lived next door. Our parents were all busy taking care of the things you do in a blackout. Finding light by way of lanterns or candles and building a fire in the outdoor grills were filling the adult time. The kids were playing in the dark on the front lawns or sitting on the front steps of the houses talking and laughing. The big blackout was exciting. My friend and I were laughing and talking as teenage girls do when all of a sudden, we saw a huge orange reddish yellowish ball or orb streak across the sky over the houses. It was enormous. It went across the entire sky and was gone. I never saw anything like it before. My friend thought it was a meteor or comet that was crashing through our atmosphere.

We ran inside and told the adults. My Dad came out looked and went back inside. It was nowhere to be seen. He was far more interested in the candles burning inside the house then a ball of light that was nowhere to be found .My friend and I listened to her little transistor radio to see if the huge red orb was being talked about on the news. It seemed as if we were the only ones who had seen it. My father told us we must have seen a shooting star. I was confused at the reaction of the adults as I knew it was not like anything I had ever seen before. I was also a kid and soon forgot about it.

As I grew up I would now and then mention the night of the blackout and the large orange ball my friend and I watched cross the sky. I quickly learned that I would receive odd looks and silence when the subject came up as my friend and I apparently were the only ones who had seen it. I learned quickly to avoid the subject.

Years passed and I moved on in life to adulthood and a family of my own. As fate would have it I ran into my friend at a local event one night in the late 90's. We were catching up with our lives when my friend asked me if I remembered that strange large orb we saw on the night of the blackout. I told her of course I remembered it in fact did not think I would ever forget it. She told me she had been so curious about what we had seen that she had been doing research on that night to see if anyone else reported seeing what we did. My friend told me she found that many others did see that large fire ball. She also discovered people had UFO sightings and saw strange lights along with many other odd events that day.

I began to look into this event and discovered that my friend was right in what she had discovered. Many other people did see exactly what we did on November 9th 1965.

I decided to write a short article about seeing that huge red/orange object blast across the sky the day of the blackout. To my amazement I received emails from all over the world from people who also were in the New York area or on the East Coast of the United States the day of the blackout and reported seeing not only that ball flame across the sky but many other things as well.

I was told of UFO sightings from New York to Canada. I was told how happy people were to read that they were not the only ones to see that huge fire ball streak across the sky. I had about five stories from people telling of lost time events on that day. I also was aware that the reports I was receiving were from very good sources. The people contacting me were in government positions or working in science or the medical field. They sent me detailed sightings or details about the day of that blackout in 1965. Many saw exactly what my friend and I did. It was incredible to me so many people had so many experiences that day that were untold.

The most interesting part of the entire event of the blackout of 65 is that so many people did witness so many odd strange events that day while so many others did not. It is the one statement or question that is part of every report I have been sent. Why did not everyone see what we did on that night?

It was interesting to me to find that the people writing or contacting me were all within a five year age difference to me. It may simply be that the adults that day were all busy handling the tasks of dealing with the huge power outage and most children inside that night with the adults leaving only the teens outside watching the world around them. It may be something far stranger. I have no logical explanation for any of it.

I do know what I saw that night with my friend. I do know others saw it too. If you were living on the East Coast of the United States during the big blackout of 1965 and you also saw something strange that day I would love to know.

For now keep your eyes on the sky!

WHAT'S THAT? 'IT'S PAT!'

telegraph - Norrie May-Welby, 48, was born a man but had a sex change operation in 1990, at the age of 28.

After becoming unhappy as a woman, May-Welby decided to become a "neuter". The 48-year-old is now officially recognised as a person of no specific gender.

May-Welby emigrated to Australia at the age of seven after being born in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Officials there altered the Briton's birth certificate to include the new no-gender classification after doctors were apparently unable to determine the sex of the expat's body.

May-Welby said: "The concepts of man or woman don't fit me. The simplest solution is not to have any sex identification."

The UK's Gender Trust welcomed the case. A spokesman said: "Many people like the idea of being genderless."
